Nollywood actor and former presidential aspirant, Yul Edochie, has publicly expressed his strong belief that Nigeria's next president should emerge from the South East region. In a recent video posted on his official Instagram page, the popular actor emphasized the importance of fairness, equity, and national unity in the country’s leadership structure.
Yul Edochie, known for both his contributions to the Nigerian film industry and his bold political views, stated unequivocally that it is time for a president of South East origin to lead the country. He described the move as the only just and equitable path forward for Nigeria, stressing that it aligns with the principles of fairness and national inclusion.
“The next president of Nigeria should come from the South East,” Yul Edochie said in the video. “In fairness and equity. That’s just the truth and how it should be.”
The actor-turned-politician’s statement comes at a time when the issue of zoning and rotational presidency continues to dominate Nigeria’s political discourse. Many political analysts and concerned citizens have argued that the South East, predominantly occupied by the Igbo ethnic group, has long been marginalized in Nigeria’s political power structure, especially when it comes to the highest office in the land.
Yul Edochie’s remarks are resonating with a growing number of Nigerians who believe in restructuring and balanced representation. His statement adds momentum to the ongoing national conversation on the need for inclusivity and regional balance in governance.
The South East region has yet to produce a democratically elected president since Nigeria returned to civilian rule in 1999, which has further fueled calls for political justice and equal representation. With the 2027 general elections drawing closer, discussions around zoning and equitable power distribution are expected to intensify.
By using his platform to advocate for a South East presidency, Yul Edochie joins a rising number of voices pushing for greater regional equity in Nigeria’s leadership. His message not only reflects the sentiments of many from the region but also contributes to the broader push for a more balanced and inclusive political future in Nigeria.
As the 2027 elections approach, it remains to be seen whether political parties will heed this call and zone the presidency to the South East in the interest of unity, fairness, and equity.
