Nollywood actress Damilola Adegbite has advised single women to be more intentional when choosing a life partner, warning them against entering relationships simply because a man has shown interest in them.

The actress shared the advice during a recent episode of her podcast, where she discussed the importance of compatibility, emotional maturity and mutual commitment in relationships.

According to her, being chosen by someone should not automatically make that person the right partner. She encouraged women to look beyond the fact that a man wants to be with them and instead consider whether both individuals can genuinely support one another and build a meaningful future together.

Adegbite stressed that age should not be the major factor when deciding whether to accept a relationship.

 She noted that a suitable partner could be younger, older or the same age, provided the relationship is built on understanding, love and mutual respect.

She also addressed women who may be approached by younger men. The actress advised older women to avoid accepting such relationships merely because the attention makes them feel attractive or desired.

Instead, she encouraged them to examine the character and intentions of the younger man before making a commitment.

Adegbite said women should consider whether a potential partner is respectful, supportive and emotionally mature. She also highlighted the importance of determining whether the person understands what he wants from the relationship and is prepared to take responsibility for building a future together.

For women who already have children, she advised them to pay particular attention to how a prospective partner relates to their family and whether he respects the life they have built.

Her comments suggest that choosing a partner should involve more than emotions or the excitement of being pursued. Compatibility, safety, respect and a shared willingness to grow together should also play important roles.

The actress further encouraged women to avoid allowing societal expectations or the fear of being single to influence their decisions. 

Rather than accepting a relationship because someone is available or has expressed interest, she urged them to determine whether the person is genuinely suitable for them.

Her message comes amid ongoing conversations about relationships, marriage and the pressure many people face to settle down. Adegbite’s position is that being in a relationship should not be viewed as an achievement on its own.

For her, the quality of the partnership matters more than simply having someone who wants to be with you.

The actress ultimately encouraged women to make relationship decisions based on genuine compatibility and the potential for both partners to create a healthy and supportive life together.
