The online drama involving singer Seyi Vibez and celebrity chef Hilda Baci has taken a new turn, with the singer removing posts he made about the chef after receiving a legal warning from her representatives.
The development comes shortly after Seyi Vibez became involved in the wider dispute surrounding music executive Dapper, following public allegations from artistes including Shallipopi and T.I Blaze over their dealings with the executive.
Seyi Vibez later turned his attention to Baci, making a number of claims about the chef on social media. His posts included a comment about Baci’s alleged BBL and artistes’ catalogue money. He also claimed that eating food prepared by her had almost harmed him and made an allegation involving spiritual manipulation.
The posts spread widely, according to Baci’s lawyers, who said they had attracted about 4.3 million views, 7,100 reposts, 3,000 comments and 45,000 likes.
That prompted a response from Baci’s legal team at Olaniwun Ajayi LP.
In a letter sent to Seyi Vibez, the law firm accused him of making statements that were “defamatory, malicious and false” about their client. The lawyers said the posts had gone beyond ordinary social media commentary and had resulted in harassment and abusive messages being directed at Baci.
They also claimed that the controversy had caused reputational damage and distress to the chef.
Baci’s lawyers demanded that Seyi Vibez permanently remove the posts and issue a public apology and retraction across his social media accounts. They further asked him to tell his followers to stop any harassment or abuse aimed at Baci.
But the demands did not end there.
The singer was given three days to provide a written undertaking promising that he would not repeat, publish or circulate similar allegations about Baci. His lawyers warned that failure to comply could result in further legal action.
Seyi Vibez has now taken down the posts at the centre of the dispute.
The deletion marks a significant shift in the matter, but it does not necessarily settle the disagreement. There has been no indication that Seyi Vibez has publicly apologised or accepted all the demands made by Baci’s legal representatives.
For now, the singer’s decision to remove the posts has brought the most visible part of the social media clash to an end, while questions remain over whether the legal dispute will go any further.
