Timini Egbuson has scored a major box office milestone as his latest film, Love and New Notes, becomes the first Nollywood release of 2026 to cross the N100 million mark.
The romantic drama has grossed over N106 million, setting the pace for the year and reinforcing Timini’s growing influence not just as an actor but also as a producer.
The milestone was announced on Monday by FilmOne Distribution, the distribution company behind the film. In a celebratory poster shared on Instagram, FilmOne revealed that the movie achieved several impressive records within days of its release.
According to the announcement, Love and New Notes is now the highest-grossing Nollywood release of 2026 and the first Nollywood film to open above N100 million outside the traditional December festive window.
The film also recorded the biggest opening weekend of 2026 so far and the highest single-day gross for any 2026 release, raking in N48 million on February 14.
It further emerged as the highest-grossing film of the weekend, underlining its strong appeal among cinema-goers during the Valentine season.
Timini, who produced the film, reshared the celebratory poster with a heartfelt message of gratitude. “All the glory must be to the Lord,” he wrote.
“Woke up to the best news. This is me saying a big thank you to everyone that has contributed to the success of this film. We go harder.” He also urged fans to continue spreading the word about the movie, describing it as a season of love and celebration.
Love and New Notes opened in cinemas nationwide on February 13, strategically timed for Valentine’s Day audiences.
The film was directed by Kayode Kasum, known for delivering commercially successful and youth-focused projects. Its early box office success suggests that audiences have embraced both its romantic themes and its nostalgic setting.
Set against the backdrop of Nigeria’s 1984 currency change, the story follows characters navigating love, ambition and personal struggles during a period of economic uncertainty.
By blending romance with a historical economic shift, the film offers viewers both emotional depth and cultural reflection, a combination that appears to have resonated strongly with cinema audiences across West Africa.
The movie boasts a star-studded cast, including Odunlade Adekola, Sophie Alakija and Eniola Badmus, among others. Their performances, combined with the film’s compelling storyline and strategic release date, have contributed significantly to its box office momentum.
For Timini, this achievement marks another career high. Having built a reputation as one of Nollywood’s leading men, he continues to expand his portfolio behind the scenes.
The strong commercial performance of Love and New Notes not only sets the tone for Nollywood in 2026 but also positions the film as an early contender in what is expected to be a competitive year for the industry.
With the N100 million benchmark already surpassed, industry watchers will now be observing how far the film can go in the coming weeks as word-of-mouth and continued audience interest drive its box office run.
