Raheem Okoya, the 22-year-old Executive Director of Eleganza Industries and son of billionaire industrialist Rasaq Okoya, has clarified that his burgeoning music career and corporate accomplishments are the result of his own efforts, not merely his family’s wealth.

Speaking in an interview with BBC News Yoruba, shared on Instagram, Okoya addressed public perceptions that his success is tied solely to privilege or inheritance. He insisted that he earns his own income and attracts independent investors who believe in his ventures.

“I work. I have a salary that I earn. I have investors. People believe in my music. They put money behind it,” he said, emphasizing the independence that guides both his professional and artistic pursuits.

Balancing leadership at one of Nigeria’s prominent manufacturing companies with his musical ambitions, Okoya explained that his father instilled a strong sense of discipline, responsibility, and self-reliance in his children.

“My dad wasn’t born rich. He tries to instil those values in his kids. He wants his kids to also be able to work and build a fortune rather than just spend and destroy,” he noted.

He further clarified that his position at Eleganza was not achieved overnight, but through years of preparation and guidance.

“I’ve been learning this position my whole life. From when I was in school, I’ve been shadowing my dad. It’s not an overnight thing. It’s been 10 years in the making,” he said.

Okoya also acknowledged that being young in such a high-profile role comes with its own challenges.

“It’s definitely challenging. It’s a heavy responsibility. People already look at you. You’re young. They already want to doubt you. You always have to prove that you know what you’re talking about,” he shared.

The Isale Eko native also credited his upbringing for influencing his musical journey, recalling the impact of Fuji legend King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, on his early exposure to music.

“K1 is a legend. He used to ring in the corridors of my house,” Okoya said, reflecting on the inspiration that shaped his sound.

Beyond his business and music pursuits, he revealed that making his father proud remains his greatest motivation.

“I love my dad so much. He’s my number one hero, my mentor. I just hope I can really, really make him proud one day,” he said.

Okoya also took aim at what he described as media misrepresentation of his persona, criticizing the distortion of his image in the public eye.

“I don’t like fake news. I hate fake news. It cuts in my head. The media likes to put me up as a villain. They know what gets people riled up and moving. It’s not always the truth,” he explained.

“They will take a little thing or completely change the narrative and perspective on me. It’s not nice. It’s painful,” he added.

Through his statements, Raheem Okoya emphasized both his independence and dedication to hard work, proving that his accomplishments extend beyond the shadow of his family fortune.
