The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, has raised concerns over the upcoming AGN National elections, alleging that there are underlying conspiracies surrounding the polls. In a series of posts on his official Instagram page, Rollas expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as attempts by former officials to undermine the current administration.

Rollas did not hold back in criticising a former AGN President, whose tenure he claimed was largely unproductive, yet is now pushing for an investigation into the performance of the current leadership. According to Rollas, the call for scrutiny from someone whose record left little to show is both questionable and unjustifiable.

In his post, Rollas wrote, “I laugh aloud at the conspiracy surrounding the upcoming AGN National Elections! How a former National President who didn’t leave a pin behind for the Guild is clamouring for the probe of a government that has proved everybody wrong! Things are happening, oh.”

The AGN boss further elaborated that while elections are a vital aspect of the guild’s democratic processes, they should not be tainted by political manoeuvring or personal agendas. He stressed that the current administration has made measurable progress in reviving the Guild’s fortunes and enhancing its relevance in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

According to Rollas, the foundation laid by the present leadership, in terms of financial stability, operational transparency, and increased engagement with members, stands in stark contrast to the perceived inactivity of past administrations. He insisted that the efforts of the current government have significantly boosted the guild’s visibility and credibility, a feat he believes should be acknowledged rather than questioned.

The AGN President also hinted that some of the criticisms emanating from former officeholders might be rooted in personal grievances or misunderstandings of the guild’s operational dynamics. He noted that the current administration has been open to dialogue and has consistently sought to incorporate feedback from members to improve the guild’s operations.

Rollas’s comments have sparked discussions within the Nigerian entertainment industry, with several actors and stakeholders taking sides on the issue. Supporters of Rollas argue that his administration has indeed brought about positive changes, including enhanced member welfare programs, advocacy for actors’ rights, and strategic collaborations with industry stakeholders.

On the other hand, critics maintain that transparency and accountability remain key pillars for any leadership, urging the current administration to remain open to scrutiny, even from former leaders. However, Rollas dismissed the notion that constructive criticism should come from individuals whose past tenures did not yield tangible results.

In his Instagram post, Rollas underscored the irony of the situation, highlighting that former officeholders who failed to deliver substantial outcomes during their terms are now positioning themselves as watchdogs over the current leadership. He said, “How a former National President who didn’t leave a pin behind for the Guild is clamouring for the probe of a government that has proved everybody wrong! Things are happening, oh.”

The AGN President further emphasised the need for unity within the guild, particularly as the elections draw near. He encouraged members to focus on progress and collective development rather than being swayed by allegations and political distractions. Rollas argued that the guild’s growth should be a priority over personal or factional interests.

Observers note that Rollas’s intervention reflects broader tensions often seen in professional guilds and associations, where leadership transitions can spark disagreements between former and current officeholders. In this context, his comments serve both as a defence of his administration’s record and a warning against attempts to delegitimise the electoral process.

As the AGN prepares for its National elections, all eyes remain on how these allegations and public statements will influence the conduct of the polls. While Rollas has firmly defended his administration, industry watchers emphasise the importance of free, fair, and transparent elections to ensure the guild continues on its path of progress.
