Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade has issued a strong caution to those seeking fame through controversial means, warning about the growing obsession with clout chasing in today’s digital age.
Taking to her Instagram Story, the actress reflected on how quickly people can gain attention by engaging in provocative acts such as insulting celebrities, making outrageous statements, or sharing nude content.
“Do you know, it’s very easy to trend. Very very easy,” she wrote. “For starters, just say or do something out of the norm. Insult someone important or go nude. So easy, so desperate, so cheap.”
Omotola, a mother of four, noted how attention has become the new form of currency, and questioned the lengths people are willing to go to achieve fame. “In today’s world, where attention is the new currency, what are you willing to trade for it? Your values? Your morale? Your conscience? Your mind? Your self-control?” she asked.
She encouraged people to reflect on their actions before falling victim to the pressures of social media trends. “Just think aloud. Lol. Oh, you are waiting for me to tell you something magical? Lol. Common, you know what you’re doing, enjoy!”
“Whatever you sow…” she hinted, reminding her audience of the consequences that come with their choices. She also pointed out that while the alternative route to success may be harder and take longer, its results are often more enduring.
“Stop! Before becoming slaves to the algorithm. Think again,” she concluded.
