Femi Branch Criticizes Fellow Actors For Lack Of Depth In Role Interpretation

Veteran Nigerian actor Femi Branch has called out some of his colleagues in the movie industry for failing to fully immerse themselves in their characters, branding such behavior as unprofessional and deceptive.

In a recent interview with HipTV, Branch expressed frustration with actors who make minimal effort to emotionally or physically adapt to the demands of their roles. He argued that these performances shortchange the audience and diminish the integrity of the acting profession.

He pointed out that certain actors maintain the same look and expression in every movie, making it difficult for viewers to suspend disbelief. “When the audience is forced to keep reminding themselves that it’s a different character, you’re not doing your job. You’re making them work harder, and that’s unfair,” he said.

Branch emphasized that acting requires transformation, not just reciting lines, and praised Hollywood stars like Michael Fassbender, Joaquin Phoenix, and 50 Cent for their willingness to undergo significant physical changes for their roles. He explained that true dedication often involves sacrifices—whether it’s shaving one’s head or wearing prosthetics.

“Your body isn’t just yours once you commit to this profession—it belongs to the craft,” he stated. “No one cares about your looks when the goal is to portray believable, relatable characters.”

He concluded by saying that directors and producers can easily identify who is truly committed and who is simply pretending, which is why only genuinely dedicated actors land serious roles in meaningful projects.
