Veteran Nollywood actor Kunle Afod has addressed the controversial topic of actors offering s3x in exchange for movie roles, stating categorically that such actions will not lead to long-term success in the industry. In a recent interview, Afod debunked allegations surrounding the widespread practice, emphasizing that talent and skill are the real tickets to success.
Having spent nearly four decades in Nollywood, Afod insists that while some may attempt to use their physical appeal to gain roles, their lack of acting prowess will ultimately betray them. “Your body can’t sustain what talent cannot create,” he stated, noting that producers and directors are always on the lookout for real talent that can drive a project.
He further explained that personal relationships and advances are not unique to Nollywood, saying they happen in every profession from schools to hospitals to banks. However, he believes those interactions are personal choices and shouldn't be mistaken for a professional shortcut.
Afod encouraged budding actors to invest in building their craft and focusing on what truly mattersacting skills, discipline, and professionalism. According to him, an actor who remains focused on their talent will stand out and rise, regardless of whether or not they play into the unspoken politics of the industry.
He concluded by urging creatives to take charge of their own careers. “Everyone can produce now. Go ahead, create your own content, tell your story, and let your work speak for you,” he said, underscoring the evolving nature of Nollywood and the growing accessibility of filmmaking tools.
Afod’s message is a wake-up call to young talentswhile shortcuts may seem tempting, only true ability stands the test of time.
