Nigerian fashion designer Veekee James is facing backlash after claiming that the Holy Spirit guided her in creating a wedding gown for Priscilla Ojo, a statement that has sparked a wave of reactions online.
In a recently circulated behind-the-scenes video, Veekee shared that she prayed before designing the gown and felt spiritually led throughout the process. The dress, which gained widespread attention after the #JP2025 wedding, received both praise for its elegance and criticism for its perceived lack of modesty.
Evangelist Benita Okeke voiced her concerns in an Instagram video, where she challenged the spiritual legitimacy of Veekee’s claim. “The dress wasn’t modest,” she remarked. “Can the Holy Spirit truly inspire someone to design something that doesn’t reflect decency? Are we now using spirituality to justify indecency?”
Okeke emphasized that modesty is a foundational Christian principle, urging believers to be cautious about attributing every form of inspiration to divine influence. “Not all thoughts or creativity come from the Holy Spirit,” she continued. “Some are simply influenced by emotions, desires, or societal trends.”
Her remarks have triggered a wide range of responses on social media, with some users supporting her perspective on modest fashion, while others stood by Veekee James, defending both her artistic vision and her faith-led approach to design.
