Newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina, has emotionally opened up about the harrowing experience she faced during her time in South Africa.

The beauty queen, who recently withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant amid controversy, shared her heartache over being rejected by South Africans due to her name and nationality.

In an interview, Chidimma revealed the deep pain she felt when South Africans questioned her identity. “South Africans felt like I was not South African enough because of my name, and it was really hard to see,” she tearfully recounted.

Having lived in South Africa for 23 years, the experience was particularly devastating for her. “It was a very horrible experience, and I would not wish it on anybody because I have lived there for 23 years. It is heartbreaking to see that I was not welcomed and accepted,” she added.

The controversy surrounding Chidimma's participation in the Miss South Africa pageant was further fueled by allegations of identity theft against her mother by South Africa's Home Affairs.

However, Chidimma declined to comment on the legal matter, stating, “There were some statements that came out from Home Affairs with regard to my mom’s ID as well, and that is still a legal matter so I won’t comment on it.”

Despite the ordeal, Chidimma remains proud of her heritage. “What I do know is that I was born in South Africa, and I am still South African, and I am still proudly Nigerian,” she affirmed, expressing her dual identity.
