American singer and actress Selena Gomez has shared the lengths she went to in preparing for her role in the new Spanish musical, Emilia Pérez.
Speaking at a Q&A session at the Telluride Film Festival on September 1, 2024, Gomez revealed that she took a break from music and all other activities to fully immerse herself in the role.
The 32-year-old pop star explained, "I stopped working on my music and anything else, and solely focused on this [musical]. Every day, I’d wake up and rehearse the lines over and over again. And I’d call in the middle of the night, my Spanish teacher."
In the musical, Gomez plays Jessi Del Monte, a character that required her to sing in Spanish—a challenge she found "therapeutic." She highlighted how the role pushed her boundaries as an artist, allowing her to connect deeply with the character.
Netflix released the first trailer for Emilia Pérez on August 26, describing the film as “an audacious fever dream that defies genres and expectations.” The movie, which also stars Zoe Saldaña, has already generated significant buzz, with fans eager to see Gomez in this bold, new role.
