Afrobeats global sensation Ayra Starr is expanding her artistic horizons by venturing into Nollywood. The 22-year-old Grammy-nominated singer is set to make her acting debut in Prime Video’s original film, Christmas In Lagos.
The romantic comedy features a star-studded cast including Teniola A. Aladese, Shalom C. Obiago, Rayxia Ojo, Shaffy Bello, and fellow Afrobeats star Adekunle Gold. The movie tells the story of Fiyin (played by Aladese), who, after a recent heartbreak, becomes convinced that her best friend, Elo (played by Obiago), is the love of her life.
Filmed in Lagos, the movie is directed by Jadesola Osiberu, who praised Ayra Starr for embodying the spirit of youth and fearlessness. "For me, Ayra Starr represents what it means to be young and female and daring and brave and fearless – just being yourself. She was on the list from day one," Osiberu shared with Variety.
Christmas In Lagos will also feature cameo appearances from other music stars like Wurld and Liya. The film's soundtrack includes songs from legendary musician Sunny Ade, as well as Afrobeats icons Flavour and D’banj, among others.
Ayra Starr's foray into acting marks an exciting new chapter in her already illustrious career, as she joins the growing list of musicians making their mark in the Nigerian film industry.
