Big Brother Naija star Tacha Akide, also known as Tacha, has expressed support for the actions taken by the Lagos State Police during the tear gas incident at singer Mohbad's candlelight parade held at Lekki tollgate on Thursday night.
Our source previously reported that the organizers of the event had announced a candlelight procession at Muri Okunola Park on Thursday in honor of Mohbad.
Following the procession at Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island, the police used tear gas canisters to disperse some of Mohbad's sympathizers who had gathered at the Lekki tollgate.
In response to the incident, Lagos State Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin explained that the crowd was dispersed because the group had caused a complete standstill in vehicular movement, resulting in traffic congestion. He mentioned that the police had an agreement with the organizers for the candlelight procession to conclude by 8 pm.
Reacting to the situation on Friday through her Instagram page, Tacha praised the police for taking action to disperse the crowd following the procession.
Tacha posted: “Kudos to the Nigerian police. I have seen videos of police begging people to dispatch themselves. We did not come out to continue #Endsars. Everybody came out for Mohbad’s candlelight procession. We can all agree that the organisers said you can all go home. But if you want to protest, get a date approved by the government, and you can go out to protest. Stop changing the narrative.”
