The family of late Nollywood actor Francis Duru has cautioned the public against relying on unofficial announcements about his burial, following the circulation of misleading funeral flyers containing inaccurate personal information.

The family made its position known on Sunday through a statement published on the actor’s official Instagram page, stressing that only information released through its authorised channels should be treated as genuine.

It specifically drew attention to incorrect claims about Duru’s state of origin and local government area, urging fans, colleagues and well-wishers to ignore publications containing such details.

According to the family, arrangements for the late actor’s service of songs and night of tributes, including programmes being organised by different groups, would be announced through its official social media platforms.

The statement was signed by his children, Ebuka Duru and Onyekachi Duru, alongside his sister, Anthonia Chenyi, who expressed appreciation for the support received since his death.

The family also acknowledged the messages of sympathy, prayers and encouragement from relatives, friends, members of the entertainment industry, fans and representatives of the federal and state governments.

Francis Duru died at the age of 57 after a brief illness. His family announced his passing on October 23, 2026, although details about the medical condition that led to his death were not made public.

The actor was born in Cameroon to Nigerian parents from Imo State. He began his career in the Nigerian film industry in 1989 with the movie Missing Mark.

He later gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Ahanna in Amaka Igwe’s 1995 production, Rattlesnake, a performance that helped establish him as a familiar face in Nollywood.

Over the years, Duru built an impressive filmography, appearing in productions such as Blood Money, Stigma, Merry Men: The Real Yoruba Demons and Mboputa.

Beyond his work on screen, he also played a role in the administration of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, serving as its interim president in 2010.

His contribution to the industry earned further recognition in 2020 when he won the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Igbo) category at the Best of Nollywood Awards for his performance in Mboputa.

As tributes continue to follow his death, the family has asked the public to respect its position and rely on verified announcements for information about the final rites of the veteran actor.
