Singer Spyro has drawn attention to the poor electricity supply Nigerians continue to complain about after visiting an EKDC office to question why he pays for Band A electricity but still gets little or no power.

The singer said he was surprised by what he found at the office, as the workers themselves were struggling with the heat due to the absence of electricity. Rather than sitting comfortably in an air-conditioned office, some of them were left fanning themselves to cope with the hot conditions.

The situation was particularly striking because the office belonged to an electricity distribution company, yet the workers could not enjoy the very service their organisation is expected to provide to customers.

Spyro also recounted his conversation with a female staff member who attended to him. According to him, the woman explained that even people in her neighbourhood made fun of her for working with EKDC because she still struggled with electricity supply at home.

Recounting the experience, he said:

“I went to the EKDC office out of frustr@t!on to find out why I pay for Band A and yet get zero electricity.

On getting there, I was moved by compassion, as the workers were literally fanning themselves, with no electricity.

The lady who attended to me said, ‘My neighbours shame me for working here, yet I have no light.’ And yet, some f00ls still seem to think everything is okay in this country...”

His experience reflects the frustration many Nigerians have continued to express over unreliable electricity supply, despite the amount they spend on power. For customers on Band A, the expectation is to receive longer hours of electricity, making the continued outages especially frustrating for those who pay higher tariffs but still spend long periods without power.

The situation has also left many households and business owners struggling with the cost of alternative power sources. From buying fuel for generators to dealing with the rising cost of running businesses without regular electricity, the burden goes beyond simply sitting in darkness.

Small business owners who depend on electricity to operate, families trying to cope with the heat and workers who need power to carry out their daily activities are among those affected by the persistent interruptions.

Spyro's encounter at the EKDC office added another dimension to the complaints, showing that even the company's own workers are not spared from the electricity challenges affecting customers.
