The daughter of late Nollywood actor Diewait Ikpechukwu has appealed to the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and members of the public to respect her family's privacy following the death of her father.

Still coming to terms with the loss, she has made it clear that she is not comfortable with people sharing her father's pictures or posting his burial announcements on social media. She wants the family to be allowed to grieve without having to come across such posts everywhere.

Addressing the Actors Guild directly, she said: “Actors Guild, I don’t want you guys posting my daddy. Nobody should call me,”

Her message was an appeal for people to give her some breathing space and allow her family to deal with the loss in their own way. She also asked the general public to stay away from posting her father's pictures, stressing that she does not want to see his image circulating on different social media pages at the moment.

For her, this is not about stopping people from mourning or remembering her father. Rather, she wants to have control over how and when information about his passing is made public. She would prefer to make any announcement herself when she feels emotionally ready.

She also made it clear that she does not want phone calls from people concerning the matter. The family needs time away from public attention, questions and the pressure that often comes with the death of a well-known actor.

The situation has also brought attention to the difficult position families of public figures sometimes find themselves in when a loved one dies. While colleagues, fans and industry members may feel the need to announce the news and share photographs in remembrance, those closest to the deceased may still be struggling to accept what has happened.

A person's death does not mean their family is immediately ready to discuss it publicly. Grief is personal, and everyone handles it differently. What may seem like a simple tribute or announcement to others could be painful for a family member who is not yet prepared to see those pictures or read about the loss online.

Diewait Ikpechukwu's daughter wants people to understand that boundary. She has not asked anyone to forget her father; she simply wants the opportunity to decide when she is ready to share his pictures and speak about his passing.

For now, her request is straightforward: allow her and the rest of the family to mourn privately, stop circulating his pictures and respect their wishes until they are ready to make any further announcement.
