Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, a Christian cleric from Plateau State who has been vocal about religious issues and insecurity in the region, has rejected claims that he prayed for Nigeria to retain a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.

Dachomo said the claim does not reflect what he actually prayed for, insisting that he would not ask God to favour a particular religious combination in Nigeria’s political leadership.

He said:

“People are trying to frame me, saying I prayed for a Muslim-Muslim ticket. But I did not, and I will never pray for a Muslim-Muslim ticket because Nigeria belongs to both Muslims and Christians”.

According to the cleric, his prayers have always included Nigerians from both major religious groups. He said his concern is the progress and wellbeing of the country rather than the religious identity of those occupying political offices.

“I pray for both Muslims and Christians in Nigeria. I pray for Nigeria to succeed. If you truly want to come to God, come with a clean heart. I did not pray for President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima to win in 2027. My prayers have always been for Nigeria to succeed”.

Dachomo also separated his prayers for Nigeria from support for individual political candidates. He made it clear that praying for the country should not be interpreted as praying for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima to secure another term in 2027.

His comments come against the backdrop of continuing political discussions around religion and presidential tickets ahead of the 2027 general election. The Muslim-Muslim ticket used by the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 presidential election has remained a subject of discussion in political and religious circles.

But Dachomo said he does not want his prayers to be presented as support for one side of that debate. His position, as he explained it, is that Nigeria is home to people of different faiths and that both Muslims and Christians deserve to be included in prayers for the country's future.

He also stressed the importance of sincerity in matters of faith, urging people who seek God to do so with genuine intentions.

“If you truly want to come to God, come with a clean heart", he added.

For Dachomo, the central issue is not whether a particular religious combination should control the presidency, but whether Nigeria succeeds and its people are able to live together despite their religious differences.

His remarks therefore focus less on political personalities and more on what he describes as prayers for the country as a whole. He maintained that his prayers are for Nigeria, its people and its success, rather than for the victory of any particular candidate or political ticket.
