Teni has taken a playful approach to her relationship with fellow Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage, jokingly calling for both of them to settle things inside a boxing ring.
The singer’s challenge was less about serious confrontation and more about imagining what a celebrity boxing match between two of Nigeria’s biggest female music acts could look like. True to her humorous style, Teni brought money, cars and even a Bugatti into the conversation.
Rather than simply challenging Tiwa to a fight, Teni imagined the financial reward that could come with such an unusual spectacle. She questioned how much the pair could potentially make and wondered whether the proceeds would be enough to put her behind the wheel of an expensive Bugatti.
She said:
“Let’s fight Tiwa Savage and me. Mummy, I will beat you till you enter bush. Me that’s is angry, I wouldn’t even look at Jamal’s face. I will cut my eyes. One, one billion. How much them dey buy all these cars? If they pay us N1.5 billion, can I buy a Bugatti? Make we first start from there. Mama, make we fight. Tiwa, I beat you, then sing “My Darling” for you."
The playful proposal also came with a musical twist. After imagining herself defeating Tiwa, Teni joked that she would go a step further and perform Tiwa’s song, “My Darling”, for her.
It is the kind of unusual scenario that fits perfectly into the playful world of entertainment, where music stars can turn ordinary conversations into elaborate jokes. In Teni’s version, the idea of two singers exchanging microphones for boxing gloves becomes a way to have fun while also imagining the kind of money a high-profile celebrity fight could attract.
The mention of N1.5 billion adds another layer to the joke. Teni’s question about whether that amount could get her a Bugatti shows that the imagined fight is just as much about the payday as it is about the competition.
For Tiwa, the challenge comes from a younger colleague who has framed the whole idea in a deliberately humorous way. Teni even refers to her as “Mama” while insisting that they should go ahead with the fight.
The two singers have established themselves as prominent names in Nigerian music, but Teni’s comments shift the conversation away from their usual musical territory and into the world of boxing and celebrity entertainment.
Whether the imagined bout would ever leave the realm of jokes is another matter. For now, Teni has supplied her own version of how the event would play out: a big-money fight with Tiwa, a possible Bugatti purchase afterwards and a performance of “My Darling” once the imaginary contest is over.
And, judging from the way she presented the idea, Teni already sounds confident about how she expects the fight to end.
