Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwo has expressed sadness over her inability to attend the burial of celebrated actor Olu Jacobs, describing her absence as painful despite her strong desire to be present.

Ozokwo, who has shared the screen with Jacobs during her long and successful career in the Nigerian film industry, said she was unable to travel to Nigeria because of contractual commitments.

The actress made her feelings known in a tribute dedicated to the late screen icon as family members, colleagues and admirers gathered to bid him a final farewell.

According to Ozokwo, being physically absent from such an important occasion was difficult for her, particularly because of the respect and admiration she had for Jacobs.

She explained that although she would have preferred to stand alongside other members of the Nollywood community during the burial, professional obligations prevented her from doing so.

In her tribute, the actress said her thoughts remained with Jacobs' family, friends and other loved ones who were present to honour his life and career.

Ozokwo also prayed for a peaceful ceremony and expressed hope that the legacy left behind by the veteran actor would continue to influence future generations.

While acknowledging that she could not be there physically, she stressed that she remained connected to the occasion in spirit.

Her message read in part: “It hurts my heart that I am not physically present in Nigeria today to pay my last respects to the great legend, Olu Jacobs.”

She added that she would have done anything to attend the ceremony but was prevented by contractual responsibilities.

The actress further sent her condolences to Jacobs' family and those who worked closely with him throughout his career. She prayed that his loved ones would find strength during the period of mourning.

Olu Jacobs was one of the most recognisable figures in Nigerian cinema, with a career spanning several decades. His work across film, television and theatre established him as one of the industry's most respected performers.

Throughout his career, he appeared in numerous Nigerian and international productions and became known for his commanding screen presence and versatility.

His contribution to the growth of Nollywood has also been recognised by colleagues and audiences over the years.

His death has generated tributes from actors, filmmakers and other entertainment personalities, many of whom have reflected on his influence on the Nigerian film industry.
