Reality TV star Phyna and Nigerian skit maker Carter Efe emerged victorious in their respective bouts at the “Chaos in the Ring” celebrity boxing event.
Phyna stopped actress Nkechi Blessing by knockout in the fourth round, while Carter Efe secured a unanimous-decision victory over rapper Speed Darlington after four rounds of action.
The two contests attracted attention before the event, with the entertainers involved in confrontations and exchanges during the build-up to their respective fights.
Phyna Claims Victory Over Nkechi Blessing
The highly anticipated bout between Phyna and Nkechi Blessing followed weeks of intense promotion, during which both entertainers exchanged heated words.
Their rivalry reportedly escalated at a press event when the pair exchanged words before the situation became physical and organisers intervened.
When the fight eventually began, Phyna relied heavily on her movement and speed. Despite being the smaller fighter, the reality TV star moved around the ring while throwing quick punches and attempting to avoid allowing Blessing to settle into the contest.
Nkechi Blessing responded strongly in the second round, applying pressure and taking the fight closer to Phyna. The actress was able to exchange punches with her opponent in what became a physical contest.
The third round was more cautious, as both fighters appeared to assess each other while looking for an opportunity to gain the advantage.
The decisive moment came in the fourth round when Phyna connected with a punch that sent Blessing to the canvas.
Blessing was unable to beat the referee’s count, bringing the fight to an end and handing Phyna a knockout victory.
Following her win, Phyna was presented with the championship belt and also received a new car from one of the event’s promoters.
Speaking after the fight, Phyna explained that the knockout was part of her strategy. She said she had planned to make Blessing use up her energy before looking for an opportunity to finish the contest.
The reality star also wasted little time identifying another potential opponent, calling out actress Etinosa.
Etinosa subsequently entered the ring and accepted the challenge, potentially setting the stage for another celebrity boxing contest.
Carter Efe Defeats Speed Darlington
Carter Efe also left the event with a victory after defeating Speed Darlington by unanimous decision following four rounds.
The result saw Carter Efe retain his celebrity boxing title and maintain his unbeaten record in the competition.
Speed Darlington came into the contest having previously suffered a technical-decision defeat, adding another chapter to his celebrity boxing journey.
Like the Phyna-Blessing fight, the contest between Carter Efe and Speed Darlington was preceded by several dramatic moments.
One of the incidents during the build-up involved a birthday cake that was reportedly kicked to the ground. Firecrackers associated with Carter Efe’s entourage also briefly caused a fire at the venue, although the situation was quickly brought under control.
After securing the victory, Carter Efe spoke about his plans beyond celebrity boxing. The skit maker said he intended to concentrate on marrying his girlfriend, Taylor Jasmine, before considering his next fight.
He also expressed an ambition to compete against international boxing stars, mentioning former world champion Floyd Mayweather.
“I want to fight with men, like Mayweather,” Carter Efe said.
However, when the possibility of a fight with Mayweather was raised, he received a blunt response from the person addressing him.
“Fight with Mayweather? Hell no. That ain’t happening,” he was told.
Carter Efe later thanked his fans and supporters for celebrating his victory.
The two bouts provided major moments at “Chaos in the Ring”, with Phyna’s fourth-round knockout and Carter Efe’s unanimous-decision victory adding another chapter to the growing crossover between Nigerian entertainment and celebrity boxing.
