Olu Jacobs died on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84. His death prompted tributes from actors, filmmakers and other figures who remembered his decades-long career and influence on the entertainment industry.
Dignitaries Attend Funeral Service
Among those present at the funeral service are Lagos State Deputy Governor, Oba Femi Hamzat; First Lady of Lagos State, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; and former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun.
Their presence added to the gathering of public figures and members of the entertainment industry who came to support the Jacobs family during the final farewell.
Family members and close friends have also joined colleagues and other mourners at the church as activities marking the actor’s final rites continue.
The funeral provides an opportunity for those who knew Jacobs personally and professionally to reflect on his life and the mark he left on Nigerian entertainment.
Dare Art Alade Performs ‘Pray For Me’
One of the notable moments at the funeral was a performance by entertainment entrepreneur Dare Art Alade.
Art Alade performed his hit song, “Pray for Me”, during the ceremony. The performance carried a personal connection to the late actor because the song featured Olu Jacobs and his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva.
The inclusion of the song at the funeral gave the ceremony an additional emotional dimension, linking one of Art Alade’s well-known works to the family and the late actor.
Jacobs and Silva were among the prominent figures associated with the song, making its performance at the farewell particularly significant.
Son Presents Olu Jacobs’ Biography
Another major moment during the funeral was the presentation of Olu Jacobs’ biography by his son, Olugbenga Jacobs.
The presentation formed part of the activities marking the actor’s final rites and offered another opportunity to document and reflect on his life and career.
As family, friends and colleagues gathered to say goodbye, the biography presentation also highlighted the importance of preserving the story of a man whose professional career spanned several decades.
Jacobs was widely recognised as one of the veteran figures of Nollywood, having built a career that earned him a place among generations of Nigerian actors.
Night Of Tributes Held In Lagos
The funeral service follows a Night of Tributes held on Wednesday at Glover Memorial Hall on Lagos Island.
The event brought together Nollywood colleagues, friends and other well-wishers who gathered to celebrate Jacobs’ life and remember his contribution to Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
The Night of Tributes featured performances, tributes and personal accounts from colleagues who shared memories of the late actor.
The gathering provided a platform for people who worked with Jacobs throughout his career to reflect on their experiences with him and discuss the impact of his work.
For many in the entertainment industry, the Night of Tributes served as a celebration of Jacobs’ professional journey before the funeral service.
Final Farewell To Veteran Actor
With the funeral now taking place in Lagos, family members, colleagues and friends are coming together for the final stage of the farewell ceremonies.
The gathering at This Present House Church reflects the wide range of people whose lives and careers were connected to Jacobs, from members of his immediate family to actors, filmmakers, entertainers and public figures.
