December remains one of the most competitive periods for the Nigerian film industry, with major cinema releases, star-studded premieres and highly anticipated streaming projects competing for audience attention. As the festive season approaches, Nollywood filmmakers are preparing to entertain movie lovers with a mix of comedy, drama, historical action and literary adaptations.

From established box-office favourites to popular streaming franchises, here are four Nollywood movies to look out for in December 2026.

1. The Four: No One Fights Alone

Scheduled to hit cinemas nationwide on December 11, 2026, The Four: No One Fights Alone is one of the anticipated festive releases associated with Funke Akindele.

The filmmaker, known for the commercial success of movies such as A Tribe Called Judah, Battle on Buka Street and Everybody Loves Jenifa, is expected to bring another star-studded production to the big screen.

The film features Funke Akindele, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Bisola Aiyeola, Chioma Akpotha, Uzor Arukwe, Lateef Adedimeji and Timini Egbuson.

Its story centres on Esosa and three loyal women who come together to protect the future of a young man they care about.

The narrative explores friendship, maternal protection, resilience and solidarity, blending emotional drama with comedy. With FilmOne handling distribution, the production is positioned as a major contender during the festive cinema season.

2. The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives

The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives is scheduled for release in Nigerian cinemas on December 4, 2026, with an international rollout expected to begin on December 11.

Directed by Daniel Oriahi and executive-produced by Mo Abudu under EbonyLife Films, the movie adapts Lola Shoneyin's acclaimed novel of the same name.

The production features Odunlade Adekola, Bimbo Ademoye, Iyabo Ojo, Mercy Aigbe, Omowunmi Dada, Shaffy Bello, Bisola Aiyeola and Lateef Adedimeji.

Set within a wealthy traditional household, the story examines the complicated relationships between Baba Segi and his wives. The arrival of an educated fourth wife threatens to expose secrets and rivalries that have remained hidden for years.

Through its exploration of marriage, patriarchy, deception and women's independence, the adaptation offers audiences a mixture of satire, family drama and social commentary.

3. Jagun Jagun 2: War of Warriors

Femi Adebayo is set to continue the story of his Yoruba epic franchise with Jagun Jagun 2: War of Warriors, which is scheduled to premiere globally on Netflix on December 4, 2026.

Following the success of the original 2023 film, the sequel returns to the world of warriors, ancient rivalries and supernatural powers. The production is expected to expand the franchise's action and historical storytelling.

Femi Adebayo leads the cast alongside Lateef Adedimeji, Femi Branch, Ibrahim Chatta and Bukunmi Oluwasina. Tope Adebayo Salami and Adebayo Tijani are credited as directors.

The sequel is expected to appeal to viewers who enjoy Yoruba-language productions, elaborate costumes, traditional cultural elements and large-scale battle sequences. Its planned Netflix release will also give audiences outside Nigeria an opportunity to watch the latest instalment of the franchise.

4. Bestie

Toyin Abraham is also expected to feature prominently in the December cinema season with Bestie, scheduled for release nationwide on December 16, 2026.

The movie features an ensemble cast that includes Pete Edochie, Sola Sobowale, Maurice Sam, Reminisce, Bolaji Ogunmola and Opeyemi Ayanwale.

The story explores friendship, betrayal, family expectations and the complicated relationships that can develop between people who consider themselves close.

Its themes are designed to appeal to audiences familiar with the pressures of maintaining friendships while navigating personal ambitions and family responsibilities.

With a combination of established actors and contemporary entertainers, Bestie is positioned as a festive-season offering that blends emotional conflict, humour and family drama. Its planned release also places Toyin Abraham in the mix of filmmakers competing for cinema audiences during the holiday period.

With major stars, a popular Yoruba epic franchise and an adaptation of an acclaimed Nigerian novel featuring on the December slate, Nollywood's festive season promises a varied selection for cinema audiences and streaming subscribers.

The four anticipated releases also highlight the competition among filmmakers seeking to attract movie lovers during one of the industry's busiest periods.
