That’s the chaos in Better Half, one of the five new originals headlining Africa Magic’s content slate in October, a month that also brings a psychological thriller and three indigenous titles across its General Entertainment and Language channels.
Better Half, executive produced by Rogba Arimoro, premieres Monday, 5 October at 8:30pm on Africa Magic Showcase (DStv channel 151 and GOtv channel 8) and features rising Nollywood stars including Treasure Enagbare, Nnamdi Agbo, Demi Banwo and Tolu Asanu.
Created by Lota Chukwu, The Ten, follows ten survivors of a past kidnapping who reunite for a vigil led by a guilt-ridden head pastor, Matthew (played by Patrick Diabuah). The story takes an eerie turn when one of them is murdered. With a local festival sealing everyone inside the church, the group finds itself trapped once more, this time with a killer hiding in their midst. This psychological thriller premieres Thursday, 8 October at 8:30pm, also on Africa Magic Showcase.
“October gives audiences a lot to look forward to, with new series that span different genres, languages and perspectives,” said Atinuke Ngozi Babatunde, Executive Head, Content and Channels, West Africa, MultiChoice Nigeria.
“From the psychological tension of The Ten to the relationship dynamics at the heart of Better Half, alongside new titles in Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo, we are bringing depth to this month’s content lineup. Our aim at Africa Magic is to keep creating opportunities for local talent to develop and bring fresh ideas to the screen, while giving audiences more of the stories and genres they want to watch. We’re looking forward to seeing how these new titles connect with viewers,” she said.
Saturday, 10 October brings a wave of premieres across Africa Magic's indigenous-language channels.
On Africa Magic Hausa (DStv channel 156), Sirrin Amarya, translated from Hausa as "The Bride's Secret” premieres at 8pm. Blending psychological suspense, romance and family drama, the series follows the disappearance of a young bride moments before she is due to marry one of Northern Nigeria's most influential businessmen. As scandal engulfs both families, the businessman's principled eldest son begins searching for answers, only to uncover a decade-old conspiracy built on betrayal, corruption, forbidden love and revenge. The series is executive produced and showrun by Chidozie Christian Ahaiwe and features Norah Ego as Zainab, the missing bride, alongside Aysha Usman Adam.
Africa Magic Yoruba (DStv channel 157) debuts Afobaje, a story set in the Ekinrinade Confederation that finally brings a 29-year-old betrayal into the light. The tale follows kingmakers who once overthrew the old monarchy and turned on their spiritual guardian, Ajangbadi, whose return alongside the last royal heir forces Crown Prince Aderounmu to investigate a rising body count, uncovering dark secrets about his own lineage and ultimately choosing wisdom over vengeance to save his land. It airs Saturdays and Sundays at 7pm. The drama series features veterans like Antar Laniyan, Aina Gold, Murphy Ray, Mr Paragaon, Abija, among others.
Rounding out the day on Africa Magic Igbo (DStv channel 159) at 7:30pm is Onu Ahia Nwanyi directed by Smart Ifeanyi Chukwu Abugu. The story follows Nkem, a young woman who enters a traditional bride contest to escape a difficult family situation, only to find herself falling for the very man she is competing to marry. As hidden ambitions and secrets emerge, the contest begins to reshape the future of several powerful families.
From contemporary relationships and gripping mysteries to stories rooted in culture and tradition, Africa Magic’s October lineup builds on more than two decades of bringing Nigerian stories, talent and entertainment to audiences across the continent.
