Toyin Abraham Unveils Sola Sobowale as Second Cast Member of Bestie

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has announced veteran actress Sola Sobowale as one of the leading cast members of her upcoming cinema project, Bestie.

The filmmaker made the announcement on Thursday, revealing Sobowale as the second major actor attached to the production. Her unveiling comes shortly after Toyin introduced veteran actor Pete Edochie as the first confirmed member of the cast.

Introducing Sobowale to her audience, Toyin described the veteran actress in glowing terms while also revealing the character she will portray in the new movie. 

Sobowale is set to play Mama Ngozi in Bestie, which is scheduled to arrive in Nigerian cinemas on December 16.

The casting brings together two generations of Nollywood performers, with Sobowale bringing decades of experience to the project. 

She has established herself as one of the recognisable figures in the Nigerian film industry through a career spanning television and cinema.

Among her notable appearances are The Wedding Party, King of Boys, King of Boys: The Return of the King, Aníkúlápó and Battle on Buka Street. 

Her role in King of Boys as Eniola Salami earned widespread attention and further strengthened her reputation as a leading performer.

Before her major cinema roles, Sobowale was already well known to Nigerian television audiences. She became particularly popular for playing Toyin Tomato in Wale Adenuga Productions’ Super Story, a role that helped make her a household name.

She later returned to the spotlight in a major way with her portrayal of Tinuade Coker in The Wedding Party in 2016. Her performance in Kemi Adetiba’s King of Boys followed and became another significant point in her career.

Sobowale’s work in the industry extends beyond acting. She has also worked behind the camera as a screenwriter, director and producer. In 2010, she was involved in Ohun Oko Somida, which she scripted, produced and directed.

Her acting achievements have also received recognition at major industry awards. In 2019, she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in King of Boys.

With Sobowale, Edochie and Toyin attached to Bestie, expectations are building around the upcoming production. The film will be released nationwide on December 16, giving moviegoers the opportunity to see the veteran performers alongside Toyin Abraham in the new project.

Toyin’s decision to gradually unveil the cast has also generated interest ahead of the cinema release, with audiences now waiting to learn more about the story, additional cast members and the roles they will play.
