‘I Don’t Advocate Beating Children’ – Bovi Reveals Son’s TV-Breaking Habit

Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi has opened up about his experience raising his children, revealing that his son broke three television sets while growing up.

Speaking during an appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, the entertainer explained that he deliberately avoided using physical punishment whenever his son acted out. According to Bovi, his approach was to give the child time to mature and eventually understand the consequences of his behaviour.

Bovi recalled that his son had a habit of throwing objects whenever he became angry, with the behaviour eventually resulting in damage to several television sets in the family home.

Despite the financial cost involved, the comedian said he did not believe beating the child was the appropriate response. Instead, he chose to observe his son and wait for him to reach a stage where he could recognise that his actions were wrong.

The actor said the turning point came when he noticed genuine remorse from his son. By that time, however, three television sets had already been damaged.

Bovi acknowledged that his ability to replace the damaged items also influenced how he handled the situation. He noted that if he had been unable to afford another television, circumstances could have made his response more difficult.

The comedian also used the experience to question the way some parents respond when their children misbehave. He encouraged parents to examine their emotions before disciplining their children, particularly when anger or frustration may be influencing their reaction.

For Bovi, correcting a child should be different from simply releasing frustration through physical punishment. He suggested that parents should consider whether their response is genuinely intended to teach the child or is instead driven by their own emotional state.

His comments have added to the ongoing conversation about parenting methods, discipline and how adults can respond to difficult behaviour among children.

Bovi’s account also highlights the challenges parents can face when trying to balance discipline with patience. 

While he admitted that his son’s actions came with a considerable financial cost, he maintained that he preferred allowing the child to develop an understanding of his behaviour rather than resorting to violence.

The comedian’s remarks have since drawn attention to the different approaches parents take when dealing with children who struggle to control their emotions.

By sharing his personal experience, Bovi has encouraged parents to look beyond the immediate frustration caused by a child’s behaviour and consider the lessons they want the child to learn from the situation.
