Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has distanced herself from the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council after her name appeared among members of the party’s Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate ahead of the 2027 general election.
The actress made it clear that she did not agree to serve on the campaign council and said she intends to remain outside active politics.
Her response came shortly after the Lagos APC released the list on September 17, 2026, with her name included alongside several prominent figures from Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
According to the published structure, the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate includes personalities such as Jide Kosoko, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Akintola, Adebayo Salami, Saheed Balogun, Bukky Wright and several Fuji musicians. Toyin Abraham was listed as one of the members of the directorate.
However, Abraham rejected the reported appointment through an Instagram Story. She said she was not a member of any campaign council and asked members of the public to disregard the reported inclusion of her name. She also reiterated that she was choosing to stay away from politics.
The development has drawn attention because of Abraham’s previous involvement in Nigerian politics. During the 2023 presidential election, she openly expressed support for Bola Tinubu.
She met Tinubu during the campaign period and publicly explained her reasons for backing his candidacy. Her political position subsequently generated significant criticism and online controversy.
The actress later spoke publicly about the consequences of expressing her political preference. In 2024, while responding to questions about the administration and the expectations surrounding the 2023 campaign, she said she had learned a lesson about being open with her political choices.
Her political position also led to disputes on social media, with Abraham saying that she and members of her family had been subjected to insults and attacks.
The controversy eventually extended into legal action after she reported some online users over allegations she described as cyberbullying, threats and defamatory statements. She also denied allegations made against her concerning her husband and said she had approached the authorities over what she considered attacks on her family.
Against this background, the appearance of her name on the 2026 APC campaign list generated renewed interest in her political history. Abraham, however, has separated the latest development from her earlier political activities by insisting that she is not part of the campaign council.
Her clarification came the same week the Lagos APC unveiled its campaign structure ahead of the 2027 election.
The wider council includes several sections, with the entertainment directorate designed to bring members of the creative industry into the campaign structure.
Reports on the published list identified Toke Benson-Awoyinka as director, Jide Kosoko as co-director and Eniola Badmus as deputy director.
For now, there is a clear difference between the published council document and Abraham’s stated position: her name appears on the released list, while she says she did not agree to join and is staying out of politics.
Her latest comments therefore place the focus on her own stated position rather than on the appearance of her name in the document.
The development adds another chapter to Abraham’s public political history, which began with her visible support for Tinubu in 2023 and has since included criticism, public explanations and her stated decision to keep her political choices private.
