Movie review: Gbegede

GBEGEDE is a 2026 Yoruba drama movie released on LibraTv, featuring notable actors including Damilola Oni, Lanre Adediwura, Kola Ajeyemi, Titi Ajayi and Femi Peters. 

The movie explores themes of betrayal, marital distrust, vulnerability and hidden domestic schemes, while building its story around the consequences of ignoring warnings that may initially appear unusual or difficult to understand.

The story follows Shola, a man who finds himself caught in an increasingly disturbing situation within his own home.

One of the most unexpected sources of information comes from a street wanderer whose unusual behaviour causes many people to overlook him. 

Despite being treated as someone whose words may not carry much importance, he reveals details that correspond with information Shola has already received. 

This development deepens the mystery and leaves Shola struggling to determine who he can genuinely trust.

GBEGEDE uses Shola's predicament to examine the fragile nature of trust within marriage. The film presents the home, traditionally regarded as a place of comfort and security, as a setting where hidden intentions can create fear and uncertainty. 

Through the protagonist's experiences, the movie explores what happens when a person's confidence in those closest to him begins to disappear.
