Veteran Nigerian actor and filmmaker Richard Mofe-Damijo, widely known as RMD, has secured another international acting credit with a special appearance in Netflix’s revival of the popular American sitcom A Different World.
The new 10-episode series debuted on September 24, bringing viewers back to Hillman College, the fictional historically Black institution that served as the setting for the original production.
RMD features in one of the episodes as a character named Chukwu. His appearance places him alongside several actors from the original series, including Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison and Cree Summer, who have returned for the new production.
The revival also introduces a younger cast led by Maleah Joi Moon, who portrays Deborah Wayne. Her character is the daughter of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert, played by Hardison and Guy in the original sitcom.
Other new cast members include Alijah Kai, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall, Kennedi Reece and Nigerian actor Chibuikem Uche.
A Different World originally aired on NBC between 1987 and 1993, running for six seasons. The Netflix version revisits Hillman College decades after the original series ended, focusing on a new group of students as they deal with university life, relationships, family expectations and personal growth.
The revival was developed by Felicia Pride, who serves as its showrunner, writer and executive producer. Veteran producer and filmmaker Debbie Allen, who appeared in the original series, is also involved in the new project as an executive producer and directed its premiere episode.
RMD’s appearance adds to a series of international opportunities that have expanded his work beyond Nollywood. The actor is also set to feature in Children of Blood and Bone, a forthcoming fantasy film based on Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling novel.
The movie, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, boasts an international cast that includes Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cynthia Erivo, Amandla Stenberg and Damson Idris. RMD is among the Nigerian actors attached to the project.
Children of Blood and Bone is scheduled to arrive on January 15, 2027.
Beyond his recent international projects, RMD has maintained a long career in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, working across acting, filmmaking, writing and production.
His credits have covered Nigerian television and cinema over several decades, establishing him as one of the familiar faces of Nollywood.
His role in A Different World marks another opportunity for the veteran performer to connect with an international audience while appearing in a revival of a series that has maintained a cultural legacy since its original run.
