‘Mr Macaroni Gave Me N1m for One Scene’ – Peter Fatomilola

Veteran Nollywood actor Peter Fatomilola has recounted an encounter with comedian and content creator Debo Adebayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, that left a lasting impression on him.

Fatomilola disclosed that Mr Macaroni once paid him N1 million for appearing in just one scene of a movie featuring veteran actor Pete Edochie.

The respected actor shared the story during an interview with Africa List, explaining that his relationship with Mr Macaroni began after they met on the set of a production in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to Fatomilola, he had been invited to appear in two scenes for the production. After completing his assignment, Mr Macaroni accompanied him to his vehicle and offered him money to cover his fuel expenses.

The veteran actor said the comedian handed him N200,000, despite the fact that the person who initially brought him onto the production had paid him only N50,000 for the two scenes.

Fatomilola explained that the gesture did not end there. Mr Macaroni later contacted him about another production involving Pete Edochie. On that occasion, he was required to appear in only one scene but received N1 million for the role.

The actor’s account highlights the different experiences of established performers working within Nigeria’s entertainment industry and the impact of gestures of appreciation from younger entertainers.

Fatomilola has been active in theatre and screen productions for decades. His professional journey began in 1967 when he joined the Olokun Theatre Group, founded by renowned theatre director and playwright Professor Ola Rotimi.

During his career, he also worked with Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka and became involved in academic work. He studied Theatre Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, where he later taught for several years.

His extensive acting credits include notable Nigerian productions such as Sango, Saworoide, Rise of the Saints, King Invincible and Super Story.

He is also remembered for portraying the original Papa Ajasco in the popular Nigerian television comedy series Papa Ajasco, a role that further cemented his place in the country’s entertainment history.

In 2022, Fatomilola celebrated 55 years of professional stage work at a special event held at Oduduwa Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

The veteran actor’s latest revelation about Mr Macaroni adds another chapter to his long career, while also drawing attention to the financial gestures that can accompany collaborations between veteran performers and younger figures in Nollywood and Nigeria’s digital entertainment space.

For Fatomilola, the experience stands out not only because of the amount involved but also because Mr Macaroni chose to show appreciation beyond the payment attached to the original acting engagement.

His story has since offered fans another glimpse into his professional journey and his encounters with some of the younger generation of Nigerian entertainers.
