Nollywood actress Mo Bimpe has reacted to the criticism surrounding her recent comments about women who are trying to conceive, calling for greater compassion, inclusion and respect for personal choices.
The actress addressed the controversy in a fresh statement shared on Instagram as the new month began, explaining that she chose to speak about her experience because it was something she personally lived through.
Bimpe said people should not attempt to explain another person’s experiences on their behalf, stressing that everyone has the right to tell their own story.
“As we step into a new month, I want to say: Everyone is entitled to tell their story.
“When I shared mine, I didn’t do it so anyone can explain my experience for me. I lived it,” she wrote.
Actress Calls For More Compassion
The actress said the reactions to her earlier comments had reinforced her belief that people should be more considerate of what others may be going through privately.
She noted that although people may have different opinions about a situation, it is important to allow individuals to decide for themselves what they can cope with.
“One thing I’ve learned is that kindness should never be assumed on behalf of someone else. It hurts to hear what women are going through; my DMs are full,” Bimpe stated.
She encouraged people to make an effort to include others in social activities instead of making assumptions about whether they would feel comfortable attending.
“Please, let’s do better. Invite people. Call them. Include them. Then allow them to decide what they can and can handle,” she added.
According to the actress, extending an invitation does not mean forcing someone to participate. Rather, it gives them the freedom to make their own decision based on how they feel at that particular moment.
‘We Don’t Always Know What Someone Is Carrying’
Bimpe further acknowledged that it can be difficult to know what another person is experiencing behind closed doors.
However, she said uncertainty about someone’s circumstances should not prevent people from showing compassion and consideration.
“We don’t always know what someone is carrying, but we can always choose compassion, inclusion, and thoughtfulness,” she said.
The actress also urged people to stop deciding what others can or cannot handle, arguing that individuals should be given the dignity to determine what is best for them.
“This new month, may we stop deciding what people can handle and start giving them the dignity of choice,” she wrote.
Bimpe concluded her message by encouraging people who may currently be experiencing difficult personal circumstances.
“And for anyone walking through a difficult season. I hope you never have to question whether you belong in the room,” she added.
Controversy Over Earlier Comments
The latest statement follows comments Bimpe made a day earlier about her experience of being left out of social gatherings involving children.
The actress revealed that she had previously been excluded from events such as baby showers, naming ceremonies and children’s birthday parties because she did not have a child at the time.
She subsequently appealed to people not to deliberately exclude women who are trying to conceive from social occasions.
Bimpe’s position was that women without children should still be allowed to decide for themselves whether they want to attend gatherings centred around children.
Her comments generated significant discussion on social media, with some people expressing support while others questioned her perspective.
Bukky Jesse Criticises Actress
Among those who reacted was fellow actress Bukky Jesse, who criticised Bimpe’s account of being excluded from events.
Jesse accused the actress of being manipulative and questioned her claims, pointing out that she had reportedly seen Bimpe attend some of the gatherings she mentioned.
The criticism added another layer to the conversation, prompting further debate about how women trying to conceive should be treated at social gatherings.
Rather than directly engaging with the criticism, Bimpe’s latest statement focused on the broader issue of allowing people to make their own choices.
