Lola Omotayo, wife of Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, has reacted to the recent outpouring of support from Nigerians following renewed revelations about the long-running dispute involving the members of the defunct music duo P-Square.
For several years, Lola found herself at the centre of public speculation surrounding the strained relationship between Peter and his twin brother, Paul Okoye.
Some Nigerians had accused her of contributing to the disagreement between the brothers, particularly after Peter and Paul got married. The allegations subjected Lola to criticism and scrutiny, with some members of the public blaming her for changes in the relationship between the siblings.
However, the public conversation appears to have shifted following fresh allegations made by Peter concerning the circumstances surrounding the collapse of P-Square.
Peter Makes Fresh Allegations
Peter recently made several claims against his twin brother, Paul, and their elder brother, Jude Okoye, in connection with the financial and managerial issues that contributed to the group’s troubles.
Among other allegations, Peter claimed that royalties belonging to P-Square, reportedly running into millions of dollars, were diverted into a company allegedly owned by Jude and his wife, Ifeoma.
The claims sparked renewed discussions about the brothers’ longstanding disagreement and prompted many Nigerians to revisit some of the accusations that had previously been directed at Lola.
As details surrounding the dispute resurfaced, some social media users began apologising to Lola for previously blaming her for the problems between Peter and Paul.
Others praised the actress and entrepreneur for standing by her husband despite the criticism and negative attention she had received over the years.
Lola Shares Message To Women
Following the renewed public support, Lola took to Instagram on Monday to share a message focused on confidence, strength and self-worth.
Although she did not specifically mention the P-Square controversy or directly respond to the apologies, her message appeared to acknowledge the encouragement she has received from members of the public.
Lola encouraged women to remain confident in themselves and not allow criticism or the opinions of others to determine their perception of themselves.
“To every woman, you are strong, capable, and worthy of every dream in your heart. You are the complete package. Never allow fear, failure, or the opinions of others to define you,” she wrote.
She also urged women to believe in themselves, embrace their individual journeys and continue moving forward despite challenges.
“Believe in yourself, your voice, embrace your journey, and keep moving forward,” Lola added.
‘I Can’t Look Away From My Responsibilities’
The actress further reflected on personal strength and responsibility, encouraging women to remain committed to the things that matter to them.
“Say to yourself: I can’t look away from my responsibilities. I can’t look away from my strength as a woman,” she stated.
Lola also highlighted the importance of recognising one’s wisdom, emotional depth and purpose.
“I can’t look away from the wisdom in my mind, the depth of my soul, or the purpose within my heart. I love you all,” she added.
Her message has since attracted attention from followers and supporters who have continued to express solidarity with her.
Years Of Public Speculation
The relationship between Peter and Paul has remained a subject of public interest since their highly successful music partnership began experiencing serious problems.
P-Square became one of Africa’s most successful music acts, producing hit songs and performing to audiences across the continent and internationally before their relationship deteriorated.
Their disagreements have involved personal, financial and managerial issues, with both brothers giving different accounts of events surrounding their fall-out.
Lola’s name became part of the public conversation at different points, with some fans suggesting that marriages and family relationships contributed to the brothers’ disagreements.
She has largely avoided engaging extensively with such accusations publicly.
The latest development has therefore renewed discussions about the impact of public opinion on family disputes and the tendency of fans to assign blame without knowing the full circumstances surrounding private disagreements.
While Peter’s recent allegations have generated fresh debate, the claims remain allegations and the parties involved have continued to present their perspectives on the dispute.
For Lola, however, her latest message appears to focus less on the controversy and more on resilience, self-belief and the importance of remaining committed to one’s responsibilities despite public judgment.
Her response has also highlighted the changing nature of public opinion, as some Nigerians who once criticised her have now expressed regret and offered apologies over the accusations previously directed at her.
