Nigerian singer Sir Raheem, the son of billionaire businessman Razaq Okoya, has announced his decision to step away from the music industry and stop releasing new music.
The 23-year-old artiste made the announcement in a statement shared on Instagram on Wednesday, explaining that his growing responsibilities outside music had made it increasingly difficult for him to dedicate the time and energy required to maintain a professional career.
Sir Raheem reflected on his years as a musician, describing the experience as a memorable chapter of his life that allowed him to perform before large audiences, connect with fans and meet artistes he had admired while growing up.
From Hobby To Professional Career
According to the singer, his journey into music started casually as a hobby shared with his friends.
He explained that music initially provided an avenue for him and his friends to bond, have fun and express themselves before the hobby gradually developed into a serious professional pursuit.
Looking back, Sir Raheem said he was grateful for the opportunities the music industry provided and the recognition he received from established artistes.
“Over the past couple of years, my musical journey has truly been a magical one; we’ve shut down the internet again and again, performed at the craziest live shows, lived through nights I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life,” he wrote.
He added that he never imagined he would eventually receive recognition from some of the musicians he grew up admiring.
Why Sir Raheem Is Leaving Music
The singer explained that balancing his music career with his other commitments had become increasingly challenging over the past year.
Sir Raheem said he has always believed in giving his best to whatever he does, but he no longer feels capable of giving music the effort, patience and dedication required.
“Over the past year, holding that alongside my other commitments has grown harder,” he said.
He explained that rather than continue releasing music without being able to give his career the attention it deserves, he felt it was more professional to step away.
“I’ve always believed in giving everything my best, and I no longer feel I can give this craft the effort, patience, and dedication it truly deserves,” he added.
The singer therefore decided to stop putting out new music, describing the move as a professional exit.
Music May Still Return
Although Sir Raheem has announced his exit from the professional music scene, he made it clear that his passion for music has not disappeared.
The artiste revealed that he has been working on an album and believes the project contains some of the best material of his career.
He suggested that the album could still be released in the future, even though he no longer intends to actively pursue music as a profession.
“Music still remains therapeutic for me. With time, maybe the album finds its way into the world somehow after all,” he said.
Sir Raheem also hinted that his creative journey is not necessarily over, suggesting that he could explore other creative ventures.
Turning Attention To Family Business
Away from music, Sir Raheem has responsibilities within his family’s business empire.
He serves as an executive director of Eleganza Industrial City Limited, a company owned by his father, Razaq Okoya.
Earlier this year, the young businessman revealed that he had been learning about the family business from his father since he was 13.
His early exposure to the business was part of his preparation for the responsibilities he is expected to take on within the company.
His decision to leave music therefore appears to create more room for him to focus on his other commitments and explore new opportunities.
While Sir Raheem’s announcement marks the end of his current professional music journey, he left the door slightly open for future releases.
For now, the young artiste says he is ready to embrace a new chapter, while maintaining his connection with music as a personal and therapeutic form of expression.
