Veteran Nollywood actor Musiliu Dasofunjo, popularly known as Baba Johunomi, has opened up about his ongoing battle with prostate cancer and urged Nigerians to take unusual changes in their health seriously.
The actor shared his experience in a video posted on Facebook by fellow filmmaker Kunle Afod, explaining that he initially overlooked changes in his urination pattern before his condition became more complicated.
Baba Johunomi said he was sharing his story to educate others and encourage people to seek medical attention when they notice symptoms that could indicate an underlying health problem.
Actor Recalls First Warning Sign
According to the veteran actor, one of the earliest changes he noticed was in the way he urinated.
He said his urine stream became split, with the urine spraying in different directions instead of coming out in a single, steady flow.
Despite noticing the unusual change, Baba Johunomi admitted that he did not consider it serious at the time.
“I first noticed a change in my urine. I was having a splitting urine stream, my urine sprays into different directions instead of single flow. But I didn’t take it serious,” he said.
The actor later began experiencing more difficulty while urinating, prompting him to seek medical attention.
He explained that the progression of the symptoms eventually forced him to visit a hospital after being advised to do so.
Multiple Tests And Scans
Baba Johunomi disclosed that he has undergone several medical examinations and scans since seeking professional help.
Following the investigations, he was referred to the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, Oyo State, where he consulted a specialist.
According to the actor, the specialist informed him that another cancer-related test was required to better assess his condition.
He said the proposed procedure would involve taking a sample of tissue from his body for further examination.
“I have done many tests and scans. I was referred to UCH in Ibadan where the specialist said they needed to cut part of my flesh to do another cancer test,” he explained.
The recommendation has left the veteran actor worried, particularly because of his concerns about undergoing a procedure involving the removal of tissue.
Actor Expresses Fear Over Procedure
While recounting his experience, Baba Johunomi expressed fear about the proposed advanced cancer test.
He said he has struggled to accept the idea of doctors cutting part of his body for another examination.
The actor’s concerns highlight the emotional challenges that can accompany a serious illness, particularly when patients are faced with unfamiliar medical procedures.
Despite his fears, he used his platform to encourage members of the public to learn from his experience.
Urges Nigerians To Pay Attention
Baba Johunomi stressed that he wished he had understood the significance of his early symptoms when they first appeared.
He believes his condition might have been addressed earlier if he had recognised the warning signs and sought medical attention sooner.
“It might not have gotten to this stage if I was aware of the symptoms earlier,” he said.
The actor explained that his decision to speak publicly was motivated by the desire to educate others rather than seek sympathy.
“I’m sharing this for people to learn and be informed because cancer is now on the rise,” he added.
His message comes at a time when health awareness remains important, particularly regarding conditions that can initially present with symptoms that people may dismiss.
