Gospel singer Neon Adejo has addressed allegations that he crossed the line with Alicia, the wife of photographer David Martins, amid claims that he flirted with her and attempted to pursue a romantic relationship.
The controversy surrounding Adejo centres on his interactions with Alicia and the circumstances that brought the two into closer contact. While questions have been raised about his intentions, the singer has now given his own account of how their relationship began and what Alicia allegedly told him about her marriage.
Adejo explained that their interaction started earlier this year when he attended a conference meeting. According to him, Alicia approached him after the meeting while people were greeting him.
Their first exchange, he said, was casual. Alicia reportedly asked why he had not seen her son that year, prompting Adejo to ask about the child before enquiring about her husband, David Martins.
Adejo said he was preparing to leave when Alicia stopped him and told him that she had something important to share.
He recalled noticing that she appeared emotional at the time.
“It all started earlier this year when I came for a conference meeting. After the meeting, people came to greet me as usual. And then, I saw Alicia walked up to me. The first thing she said was, hey Neon, you have not seen my son this year. And so I said, that’s true, I have not see him this year, how is your son? She said oh, he’s fine, he’s with the nanny.
“The next thing I said was, how about your husband? I have not seen him too, How is he? Then she said, he’s probably busy that’s why he couldn’t make it. So I said no problem, I was about to walk away and she said, there’s something I want to share with you.
“I looked at her eyes and I saw that she was teary. I knew it was very important. We walked towards my car, my driver was inside the car, and I said ok, what is it that you want to talk about?”
Adejo went on to describe what happened after they began speaking privately. He said Alicia allegedly told him that she had been dealing with difficulties in her marriage for years.
“It was then she began to narrate to me how she’s been mentally, financially, verbally and emotionally ab%sed by her husband for the last three years.”
According to Adejo, the information surprised him because it was very different from the image of the couple he had previously seen publicly.
“Mind you, I have known David for a while, and it was shocking to me because what I was seeing on social media was not tallying with what she was saying to me at the moment.”
He said Alicia subsequently showed him photographs on her phone which she presented as evidence of what she had allegedly experienced.
"And so, to further prove what she was saying, she opened her phone, shared with me some fearful pictures.
“These pictures were so b@d that I can’t even compare it to what she shared to the public. I don’t think she has shared those pictures before.”
Adejo said seeing the images left him deeply disturbed and prompted him to ask Alicia how she had been coping with the situation.
“When I saw these, I broke down because I just couldn’t make sense of it. It was then I asked her, how have you been surviving? Then she told me she’s been staying with...”
His account comes as he seeks to explain the circumstances surrounding his interactions with David Martins’ wife, following allegations that he had ulterior motives towards her.
The singer’s explanation presents his involvement from his perspective, while the allegations about his conduct and intentions remain at the centre of the controversy.
