Music executive Damilola ‘Dapper’ Akinwunmi has called for an independent forensic audit of his dealings with former artistes T.I Blaze, Seyi Vibez and Shallipopi, as the ongoing dispute over contracts, royalties and music catalogues intensifies.
Akinwunmi, the CEO of Dapper Music, made the call in a series of posts on X on Saturday while responding to allegations of financial misconduct and contractual breaches made by some of his former associates.
The music executive denied the accusations and maintained that the relevant contracts, financial records and transaction documents were available for examination.
He challenged the artistes involved in the dispute to allow independent professionals to review the records and determine whether any money remains outstanding.
“I have nothing to hide. The records exist. The authorities have them. Let the process establish the truth,” Akinwunmi wrote.
His response comes after former artistes associated with his platform made separate allegations concerning the management of their music businesses, including royalties, catalogue licensing and contractual arrangements.
Dapper Rejects Claims Of Misconduct
Akinwunmi also pushed back against what he described as false narratives being circulated on social media.
According to him, the artistes involved voluntarily chose to leave his platform and were not forced out.
“Don’t come online and spill rubbish narratives, & lies, only to mislead the public! You chose to leave! No one forced you, and we are still fine without you! Move on! Stop acting obsessed!!!!!” he stated.
The executive argued that the ongoing controversy should not be settled through social media accusations, insisting that financial and contractual disagreements could be resolved more effectively through proper legal and accounting procedures.
He also appeared to challenge Shallipopi over statements the singer had previously made about his relationship with Dapper Music.
Executive Challenges Shallipopi
Addressing Shallipopi directly, Akinwunmi questioned the singer’s account of their contractual relationship and referred to an earlier meeting the artiste allegedly failed to attend.
He also challenged Shallipopi over allegations surrounding his signature on contractual documents.
“You claim here that I forged your signature, but in your public statement in 2024, you claimed that you were pushed into a deal with Dapper Digital. Which is it???” he asked.
Akinwunmi maintained that the conflicting claims should be examined against the actual documents rather than debated publicly.
He further suggested that a reputable auditing or legal firm should be allowed to review the relevant agreements and financial records.
KPMG, PwC Among Firms Suggested
The Dapper Music boss listed several major professional firms that could conduct an independent review of the dispute.
Among those mentioned were KPMG, PwC, Deloitte, Templers, Aluko & Oyebode, Olaniwun Ajayi LP and Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie.
“We already did an audit from a reputable company! Surprise, surprise, who owes who?” he wrote.
He subsequently challenged the artistes to select any reputable accounting or legal firm for a fresh examination of the accounts.
“If e sure for any of you, make we go KPMG, PwC, Deloitte, Templers, Aluko & Oyebode, Olaniwun Ajayi LP, Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie,” he added.
Akinwunmi said such an exercise would involve examining both the financial records and contracts to establish whether his company had breached its obligations.
Dispute Over Royalties And Catalogues
The latest development follows a series of allegations by T.I Blaze, Seyi Vibez and Shallipopi regarding their respective dealings with Dapper Music.
T.I Blaze recently questioned the handling of royalties and licensing arrangements involving music associated with artistes under the company.
Seyi Vibez also accused Dapper of using money he believed belonged to him to expand the executive’s business and sign other artistes.
Shallipopi, meanwhile, alleged that royalties from dozens of his songs remained unpaid and claimed that his music catalogue had been sold without his consent.
Dapper Music has rejected the allegations, while the former artistes have continued to publicly raise questions about their financial dealings with the company.
The latest call for a forensic audit could therefore shift the dispute from social media exchanges towards a more formal examination of the contracts, accounts and transactions at the centre of the controversy.
For now, the competing allegations remain claims from the respective parties, and the outcome of any independent audit or legal proceedings would be required to establish the facts.
