A Nigerian car dealer has publicly disputed claims made by TikTok influencer Barbiie Nelly about a luxury Mercedes-Benz that reportedly costs more than ₦80 million.
The controversy began after videos surfaced showing the influencer with the high-end vehicle. In the clips, the Mercedes-Benz was presented as a gift from her boyfriend, leading many viewers to believe she had become the car's new owner.
That narrative has now been challenged by the dealer, who insists the vehicle never left the showroom with Barbiie Nelly.
Speaking about the incident, the dealer claimed the influencer visited the dealership alongside a few companions to check out the Mercedes-Benz. According to him, it was simply an inspection, as they wanted to see the car up close before making any decision.
He alleged that while they were at the dealership, several videos were recorded with the vehicle. After spending some time there, the group reportedly informed the dealership that they would return the next day to conclude the purchase.
However, the dealer claimed that was the last he heard from them.
He further alleged that the same videos recorded during the visit were later shared online in a way that suggested the luxury car had already been bought and gifted to the influencer by her boyfriend.
The dealer said that impression was inaccurate and did not reflect what actually happened during the visit to his showroom.
Using the incident to make a broader point, he advised people not to accept every luxurious display they come across on social media as reality. According to him, appearances online can sometimes be very different from what takes place behind the scenes, especially when expensive cars and lavish lifestyles are involved.
Maintaining his position, the dealer said, “Don’t believe everything you see on social media. Popular TikTøk influencer Barbiie Nelly, who posted videos with a Mercedes-Benz worth over ₦80 million and claimed it was a gift from her boyfriend, only came to inspect the car.”
His comments have now added a fresh twist to the conversation surrounding the Mercedes-Benz videos, with both accounts presenting different versions of what happened during the visit to the dealership.
As of the time of this report, Barbiie Nelly has not publicly responded to the dealer's allegations or addressed his claim that the vehicle was only inspected and never purchased.
