American singer and actress Ariana Grande has revealed plans to step away from the public eye after wrapping up her Eternal Sunshine Tour, saying she is looking forward to taking a well-earned break from constant public attention and scrutiny.
The Grammy-winning star, who has spent the past several months touring in support of her chart-topping music, is expected to significantly reduce her public appearances once the tour comes to an end next month.
According to People, a representative for the singer confirmed that Grande wants to prioritise her wellbeing after enduring years of public commentary surrounding her health, physical appearance and personal life.
“She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny,” the representative said.
“This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much.”
Stepping Away From The Stage
Grande’s decision comes as she prepares to conclude the Eternal Sunshine Tour, which was launched in support of her 2024 album of the same name.
The global tour has received positive reviews from fans and critics, with sold-out performances across multiple cities.
Its final concert is scheduled to take place in London on September 1, bringing one of the year’s biggest music tours to a close.
Although the singer has repeatedly expressed gratitude to her fans throughout the tour, sources close to her say she believes the time has come to slow down and focus on herself after months of demanding performances and media attention.
Withdraws From Theatre Production
The announcement of Grande’s planned break has already affected one of her upcoming acting commitments.
Production company Empire Street Productions confirmed that the singer has officially withdrawn from its planned revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park With George, which is scheduled to open next summer at London’s Barbican Centre.
Grande had been cast in the dual roles of Dot and Marie, where she would have reunited with her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey.
In a statement, the production company expressed support for her decision.
“We know this cannot have been an easy decision, and she makes it with our complete understanding and support. We wish her nothing but the best.”
The company also confirmed that the production would continue as planned and that a replacement for Grande would be announced in due course.
Years Of Public Attention
Grande’s decision to temporarily withdraw from public life follows years of intense conversations about her appearance.
In recent years, the singer has frequently found herself at the centre of online discussions regarding her weight and health, with social media users repeatedly commenting on changes to her physical appearance.
Last year, during promotional activities for Wicked: For Good, Grande revisited remarks she made in a 2024 interview in which she criticised society’s growing tendency to openly discuss other people’s bodies.
She argued that people have become far too comfortable making personal observations about appearances without considering the emotional impact such comments may have.
“There is a comfortability that we shouldn’t have, at all,” she said at the time, describing the behaviour as “dangerous for all parties involved.”
New Music Despite The Break
Although Grande intends to reduce her public appearances, she continues to expand her musical catalogue.
The pop star recently released her eighth studio album, Petal, which arrived on streaming platforms on Friday.
Speaking with Apple Music, Grande described the album as one of the most experimental projects of her career.
According to the singer, the record allowed her to explore emotions she had rarely expressed in previous releases.
She explained that the album reflects “the unfiltered rage that I think we all feel sometimes,” adding that the project embraces a different creative direction.
Interest in Grande’s appearance resurfaced following the release of the music video for the album’s title track, where she portrays an actress repeatedly rejected by casting executives before seeking dramatic fictional revenge.
More Projects Ahead
Despite taking a break from public-facing activities, Ariana Grande will still appear on cinema screens later this year.
She is set to star alongside Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro in the comedy Focker-in-Law, the latest instalment of the popular Meet the Parents franchise.
The film is scheduled for theatrical release on November 25 through Universal Pictures.
For now, however, Grande’s focus remains on completing her tour before stepping away from the spotlight to recharge after years of living under constant public scrutiny.
