A search for a missing National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Bayelsa State has ended in tragedy after reports emerged that he was found dead in Nembe Local Government Area.
The deceased, identified as Okebaram Stanley Chimaroke, was serving in Nembe at the time of the incident. Chimaroke, a graduate of Civil Engineering from the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, was also known among his former schoolmates for serving as President of the institution's Student Union Government (SUG).
His disappearance had sparked concern among fellow corps members and local authorities after he could no longer be reached, prompting a police search that has now taken a heartbreaking turn.
According to information shared by people familiar with the case, Chimaroke's body was reportedly recovered from a body of water in the Nembe area. It was further alleged that he may have been attacked by unidentified individuals before his death, although investigators have yet to officially confirm those claims.
Before news of his death surfaced, the Bayelsa State Police Command had already launched efforts to trace his whereabouts after a missing person report was filed.
Police sources told security analyst Zagazola Makama that the report was made at about 8:40 p.m. on July 25, 2026, by fellow corps member Aribisola Bisi Isaac, who visited the police alongside Adeola Marvelous.
According to the report, the Local Government Inspector informed them that the 27-year-old NYSC member, who was posted to serve in Nembe Creek, was last seen at about 8:00 p.m. on July 24.
Police sources also disclosed that repeated attempts to contact him through his mobile phone numbers were unsuccessful, raising fears over his safety and prompting the decision to notify security agencies.
After receiving the report, police officers travelled to the creek community, which is about a 45-minute boat ride from the Nembe Divisional Headquarters, where they began searching for the missing corps member while investigating the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
"The police said efforts are ongoing to locate the missing corps member and establish the circumstances surrounding his disappearance."
Although reports now indicate that Chimaroke has been found dead, authorities have yet to officially provide details on the circumstances surrounding his death. Investigators are expected to determine exactly what happened and whether foul play was involved.
The tragic development has brought an end to the search for the young graduate, whose death has left many questions unanswered as police continue their investigation.
