Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has shared what he believes is the real reason his friendship with Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy came to an abrupt end, saying false accusations drove a wedge between them despite the strong relationship they once enjoyed.

Speaking during a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, the musician reflected on the period when Burna Boy frequently visited Ghana and the close bond they shared at the time. According to him, their friendship went beyond the music industry, describing Burna Boy as someone he genuinely cared about and was always ready to support whenever he came into the country.

Shatta Wale recalled receiving a personal phone call from Burna Boy before one of those trips. He said the Nigerian star asked him to pick him up from the airport, a request he found memorable because, in his experience, no other Nigerian artiste had ever asked him to do that.

He explained that once Burna Boy arrived in Ghana, he made sure everything was taken care of so his guest could relax and enjoy his stay without worrying about logistics or expenses.

“I was treating Burna Boy in Ghana like a king. I was showing him the roads of Ghana… I gave him a house, gave him cars. He wasn’t wasting money in Ghana,” he said.

However, Shatta Wale claimed that the friendship took an unexpected turn after some people who were once part of his circle allegedly began spreading damaging stories about him following disagreements that led to them parting ways.

According to the dancehall star, these individuals contacted influential people around him and made several allegations in an attempt to destroy his relationships. One of the rumours, he alleged, was directed at Burna Boy and involved the woman the Nigerian singer had travelled to Ghana with.

“They told Burna Boy that I was f¥cking his girl he brought to Ghana. He just bought it,” he claimed.

Shatta Wale said he had no idea such allegations had been made at the time. Instead, he simply noticed that Burna Boy stopped responding to his phone calls and messages. At first, he could not understand what had changed between them, especially since they had enjoyed a close friendship.

Trying to get answers, he reached out to Burna Boy's mother, whom he described as someone he has always respected and considered family because of the relationship they once shared. According to him, she gave reasons why Burna Boy was unavailable, but he later realised there was likely more to the story.

Reflecting on the experience, Shatta Wale admitted that the situation still hurts because he never had the chance to explain himself before Burna Boy decided to distance himself.

“I didn’t know they’ve told them, and he’s decided not to talk to me,” he said. “I just thank God that God has put Burna somewhere, but it hurts me that he didn’t listen to me to explain to him that this was what the boys were doing.”

Although he expressed gratitude for Burna Boy's success, Shatta Wale said he still wishes his former friend had given him the opportunity to clear his name instead of believing what he insists were false rumours.
