Nigerian influencer and human rights activist Oruche Ogeamara Precious, popularly known as Mama Pee, has joined the growing calls against South African singer Tyla’s planned concert in Lagos, urging the Grammy-winning artiste to stay away from Nigeria until issues surrounding xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa are addressed.
The activist made her position known on Thursday through a strongly worded post on Instagram after Tyla unveiled the schedule for her APOP World Tour, which includes a performance in Lagos on December 22, 2026.
Mama Pee argued that the South African singer should not be welcomed to perform in Nigeria while many Nigerians continue to face alleged attacks and discrimination in South Africa.
Raises Concerns Over Xenophobia
According to Mama Pee, Tyla’s silence regarding reports of xenophobic attacks and the alleged killing of Nigerians in South Africa has raised concerns among many Nigerians.
She questioned why the singer had not publicly condemned the incidents despite enjoying support from Nigerian fans throughout her career.
The activist pointed to the resurgence of anti-foreigner campaigns in South Africa, which reportedly intensified in April 2026, leading to renewed tensions between citizens of both countries.
Videos circulating online in recent months have shown attacks on African migrants, while reports of violence involving some Nigerians have continued to spark outrage on social media.
Questions Planned Lagos Performance
Reacting to Tyla’s inclusion of Lagos on her international tour schedule, Mama Pee questioned whether the singer should be allowed to perform in Nigeria under the current circumstances.
She argued that Nigerians should not be expected to purchase concert tickets while fellow citizens continue to face hostility abroad.
“So Tyla will come to Nigeria, pass our immigration peacefully? And we will buy tickets to go and see her? As per?” she wrote.
The activist also criticised what she described as Tyla’s failure to publicly speak against xenophobic violence.
“A young man has just been strangled by the police in her country, several killed because of nothing but hate, and she hasn’t said a word. But she and her fellow human-hunting crew can come and sing for us so we dance here while our people bleed and scream in fear over there?”
Calls For Boycott
Mama Pee maintained that Nigerians have every right to express their dissatisfaction by refusing to support the planned concert.
She insisted that public figures should not remain silent when issues affecting human lives are involved.
“Fellow Nigerians, our feelings are valid. No gaslighting over here. Tyla should stay back in her human hunting country. Her silence in the face of grave injustice is loud enough,” she stated.
She also criticised what she described as the inability of Nigerian authorities to adequately protect the interests of citizens affected by xenophobic attacks.
“If na only this one we fit do as our government no know themselves, make we do am. I stand with Nigerians. Stay back in your country,” she added.
Debate Continues Online
Mama Pee’s comments have added to the growing debate surrounding Tyla’s scheduled Lagos performance.
Earlier, social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, also opposed the planned concert, warning organisers against proceeding with the event while concerns over the treatment of Nigerians in South Africa remain unresolved.
The issue has divided opinions online.
While some Nigerians believe the concert should be boycotted as a form of protest against xenophobia, others argue that entertainers should not be held responsible for political or social issues within their countries.
Supporters of Tyla have also pointed out that the singer has not been linked to any anti-Nigerian campaign and questioned whether it is fair to expect her to comment publicly on every national issue.
Concert Still Scheduled
Despite the growing backlash, Tyla’s Lagos performance remains on her official world tour schedule.
The singer is expected to perform in the city on December 22, 2026, as part of a global tour that includes stops across several countries.
At the time of filing this report, neither Tyla nor the organisers of the Lagos concert had responded publicly to the latest criticisms from Mama Pee.
With months still remaining before the scheduled performance, it remains to be seen whether the mounting calls for a boycott will have any impact on the event or prompt a response from the South African star.
