Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has appealed to Nigerians to remain patient with President Bola Tinubu's administration, arguing that it is still too early to make a final judgment on the government's performance.
Speaking during a recent interview, the respected actor stressed that meaningful reforms and national development take time, urging citizens to allow ongoing policies to produce measurable results before drawing conclusions.
Kosoko explained that governing a country is a complex responsibility that cannot be evaluated overnight. To illustrate his point, he compared national leadership to constructing a building.
According to him, no one would inspect an unfinished structure and immediately determine whether it is a success or failure. In the same way, he believes the Tinubu administration should be given enough time to complete its agenda before Nigerians assess its achievements.
The actor also acknowledged that no government is perfect, noting that President Tinubu, like every other leader, is human and capable of making mistakes.
However, he maintained that expecting immediate solutions to Nigeria's long-standing economic and political challenges is unrealistic. Instead, he encouraged citizens to observe the long-term impact of government policies rather than focusing only on short-term difficulties.
Kosoko further expressed concern about how public opinion is shaped in the digital age. He argued that many Nigerians, particularly young people, are constantly exposed to narratives created by individuals with political interests.
According to him, repeated messages from opposition voices can significantly influence how people perceive the government, even before they independently evaluate its actions.
Addressing criticism directed at celebrities who publicly support the administration, Kosoko rejected suggestions that such endorsements are always motivated by financial rewards or political favours.
He insisted that entertainers and public figures are entitled to express their personal opinions without automatically being accused of receiving benefits from the government.
The veteran actor also claimed that some individuals who identify themselves as activists may have their own personal interests despite presenting themselves as independent voices.
He argued that public discourse should allow room for differing opinions without resorting to accusations against those who hold contrary views.
Kosoko's remarks have generated conversations on social media, with reactions divided between those who agree that governments need time to implement reforms and others who believe citizens have every right to hold elected leaders accountable throughout their tenure.
His comments add to the growing national debate over the direction of the country and the expectations Nigerians have for the current administration as it continues to implement its policies amid ongoing economic and social challenges.
