Deeone has openly questioned the decision to confer a chieftaincy title on social media personality VeryDarkMan, saying he intends to personally seek answers from the Oba of Iwo.
The comedian made his position known shortly after news of the royal honour became public. Rather than simply expressing his disagreement online, Deeone said he was already in Iwo and planned to visit the palace because he believes the monarch may not have been fully aware of the person being honoured.
According to him, he wants to present videos of VeryDarkMan to the traditional ruler, insisting that they would give a clearer picture of the controversial activist and content creator.
In his words:
"l am in iwo town and l am here to give Oba of Iwo Verydarkman Gb0l@ and all his knacking videos because it looks as if Kabiesi is not aware of who Verydarkman is.
I have been in shock since yesterday when l heard Oba Iwo gave Verydarkman chieftaincy title. Don’t they have responsibile and respectful person in Iwo land that Kabiesi couldn’t give them and he went and gave Verydarkman such chieftaincy title ? I am highly disappointed, l am going straight to the palace to ask questions and to present the videos to Kabiesi."
The remarks reflect Deeone's strong objection to the honour bestowed on VeryDarkMan. He argued that the title should have gone to someone he considers more deserving, particularly an individual from Iwo whom he believes has earned such recognition through respect and service.
His comments also suggest that he feels the decision may have been different if the Oba had been exposed to what he described as videos showing VeryDarkMan's conduct online. Deeone maintained that his planned visit to the palace is aimed at presenting those materials directly to the monarch while asking why the social media figure was selected for the honour.
VeryDarkMan, whose real name is Martins Vincent Otse, has built a large following through his outspoken videos on social issues, celebrity controversies and public accountability. While many supporters see him as someone who speaks fearlessly on issues affecting ordinary Nigerians, he has also remained one of the country's most controversial online personalities, regularly drawing criticism over his style and comments.
The recent chieftaincy title conferred on him by the Oba of Iwo has generated different opinions, with Deeone becoming one of the most vocal public figures to openly challenge the decision. His latest statement makes it clear that he is not limiting his disagreement to social media, as he says he is prepared to take his concerns directly to the palace.
Whether the planned visit eventually takes place or not, Deeone has left little doubt about where he stands on the royal honour given to VeryDarkMan.
