Nigerian comedian Odeh Ajiri Princewill has publicly responded to domestic violence allegations made by his former wife, Chioma, admitting that he slapped her twice during their marriage while denying several other accusations she levelled against him.
The comedian addressed the controversy in a video shared on his Instagram page on Tuesday, saying he initially planned to release a much longer response but later decided against it after receiving advice from his pastor.
According to Princewill, he had prepared a one-hour video explaining his side of the story in detail before choosing to remove it.
“I had already scheduled the one-hour video, and in that video, with God who made me, I gave details. I have taken it down everywhere except Instagram because I don’t know how to delete a scheduled post. I am doing this because of you, pastor,” he said.
Princewill explained that the decision followed a personal appeal from Pastor Gbenga of Harvesters International Christian Church, Magodo, whom he said encouraged him to exercise restraint despite the seriousness of the allegations.
The comedian’s response comes days after his former wife released a viral video accusing him of physically abusing her throughout their marriage.
Among her allegations, Chioma claimed Princewill assaulted her while she was recovering from a Caesarean section, intimidated her on several occasions and repeatedly cheated during their marriage.
Addressing the abuse allegations, Princewill admitted there were two occasions when he physically assaulted his former wife.
He expressed regret over those incidents, insisting that he had apologised for his actions.
“I had instances where I slapped this girl twice in the marriage, and I’m not proud of it. I apologised for it,” he stated.
However, he rejected several other claims made against him, maintaining that the public had only heard one side of the story.
Princewill also disputed suggestions that he neglected his family’s financial responsibilities while they were married.
Responding to allegations that he contributed only ₦200,000 monthly towards rent, school fees and other household expenses, he insisted the claims were inaccurate.
According to him, Chioma never personally paid rent because he consistently handled the payments, even after they had separated.
“She has never paid rent. Even after we were no longer together, I still paid her rent. I also paid for her HMO, and whenever she called that she needed money, I still sent it,” he said.
The comedian further disclosed that he recently settled hospital expenses incurred during the childbirth of Chioma’s sister, saying he continued to offer financial assistance despite the breakdown of their marriage.
Princewill also addressed allegations surrounding infidelity, making claims about his former wife’s conduct during the marriage.
According to him, there were several situations he deliberately chose not to discuss publicly because he wanted to protect their children.
“The number of men that came to drop her at my gate during the marriage, the number of men that gave Chioma money during the marriage, I kept quiet.
“Let it be known that I kept quiet because of AJ and TJ,” he alleged.
His claims have since generated widespread reactions online, with many social media users debating the competing accounts presented by both parties.
Chioma has, however, strongly denied allegations that she was unfaithful during the marriage.
Reacting to Princewill’s claims, she described the accusations as false.
“It is a lie from the pit of hell,” she said.
She also expressed concerns for her safety amid the growing public dispute, stating that she wanted responsibility placed on her former husband should anything happen to her or members of her family.
“If anything happens to me and my family, the world should hold Comedian Princewill and his family responsible,” she said.
According to Chioma, the alleged abuse was officially reported to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, after which both parties agreed to dissolve the marriage.
She also argued that if allegations of infidelity had formed part of the reasons for the divorce, they would have appeared in the legal documents filed by Princewill.
The former couple’s marriage officially came to an end after Chioma’s family reportedly returned her bride price in December 2025, while the divorce petition was subsequently filed in January 2026.
As the controversy continues to unfold, both parties have maintained contrasting accounts of what transpired during their marriage, leaving the matter at the centre of intense public discussion.
