More than three decades after one of Nigeria’s most influential Christian films captured audiences across the country, veteran filmmaker and founder of Mount Zion Faith Ministries, Mike Bamiloye, is bringing the story back to life for a new generation.

The renowned gospel filmmaker has confirmed the upcoming release of Agbara Nla: The Return, a modern reimagining of the 1993 Christian classic that became one of the defining productions in Nigeria’s faith-based film movement.

The movie is scheduled for nationwide cinema release on October 1 and was officially announced through a trailer and message shared by Bamiloye on social media.

Reflecting on the original production, he wrote:

“AGBARA NLA (1993)… Who remember the experiences then? That was 33 years ago. And the English Version: THE ULTIMATE POWER came up in 1994 and spread across the Eastern Nigeria starting from Edo.

“Now coming up, remade and repackaged in higher grade. Coming to CINEMA, October 1st.

Prophetically… For the Deliverance of… MUWONLERU…!”

Bringing Back A Faith-Based Classic

When Agbara Nla was first released in 1993, it quickly grew beyond being just another Christian movie.

At a time when faith-based filmmaking in Nigeria was still developing, the project stood out for its bold storytelling and spiritual themes.

The English adaptation, The Ultimate Power, followed in 1994 and expanded the movie’s reach across different parts of Nigeria and beyond.

For many viewers, the film became more than entertainment—it became part of church culture, family discussions, and evangelism efforts.

Its impact helped establish Mount Zion as one of the most recognisable names in Christian drama across Africa.

A Story Rooted In Spiritual Warfare

The original movie focused heavily on spiritual battles and the struggle between good and evil.

Through themes involving witchcraft, occult influence, and demonic confrontation, the story highlighted faith, prayer, evangelism, obedience, and the supremacy of divine authority.

At its core, Agbara Nla presented a message that spiritual victory comes through unwavering faith and dependence on God.

The remake aims to revisit those same themes while updating the storytelling style and production quality for contemporary audiences.

According to the announcement, the new version preserves the heart of the original narrative while presenting it through a modern cinematic lens.

Familiar Faces Return Alongside A New Generation

One of the major highlights of the remake is the return of Mike Bamiloye himself.

He reprises his role as Isawuru, reconnecting audiences with one of the central characters from the original production.

Joining him are:

* Philip Olubakin as Olaboye

* Damilola Bamiloye as Kola

* Aanu Kolade Abiodun as Bose

The project is directed by Damilola Bamiloye and Joshua Bamiloye, representing a continuation of the Bamiloye family’s long-standing involvement in Christian media and storytelling.

A Major Collaboration For The Big Screen

Agbara Nla: The Return is being produced through a collaboration involving Mount Zion Film Productions, Circuits, and Sozo Films.

Production responsibilities are led by Chris Odeh, with Mohammed Sedik and Damilola Bamiloye serving as co-producers.

Nationwide theatrical distribution will be handled by Blue Pictures Distribution, positioning the movie for a wider cinema audience.

Continuing Mount Zion’s Legacy

Since being founded in 1985 by Mike Bamiloye and Gloria Bamiloye, Mount Zion Faith Ministries has remained a major force in Christian film production.

Over the years, the ministry has produced numerous stage dramas and films that shaped the faith-based entertainment landscape, including Abejoye, Abattoir, and The Train.

With Agbara Nla: The Return, the ministry is once again revisiting one of its most recognised stories—this time for cinema audiences and a new generation of viewers.
