Veteran Nollywood actress Hilda Dokubo has voiced strong concerns over the worsening security challenges facing Nigeria, calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government to take more decisive action to protect citizens.

The actress made her position known in a video shared on her X account, where she expressed frustration over the increasing cases of kidnappings, attacks on communities, and the growing fear among ordinary Nigerians.

Dokubo argued that many public office holders enjoy a level of security that most citizens can only dream of, making it difficult for them to fully understand the daily realities faced by millions of people across the country.

According to her, government officials move around in heavily protected convoys, live behind multiple layers of security, and rarely experience the anxiety that ordinary citizens endure whenever they leave their homes.

“You live a great life. You drive in armoured vehicles escorted on both sides by armed security men. Your office has an armoured door and long security queues before you can be seen,” she said.

The actress maintained that the wide gap between leaders and citizens has contributed to what many Nigerians perceive as a lack of urgency in addressing insecurity.

She suggested that the level of protection surrounding public officials often shields them from the emotional and psychological impact of the crisis affecting communities nationwide.

“But not us ordinary Nigerians and so you don’t feel our pain, and that’s why you can distance yourself from our cry by citing the example of Abraham and Isaac,” she added.

Dokubo’s comments were in response to remarks reportedly attributed to the President regarding the country’s security situation. While acknowledging that leaders may draw lessons from history, religion, or personal experiences, she stressed that Nigerians need practical solutions rather than symbolic references.

The actress insisted that citizens who are directly affected by violence, displacement, and criminal activities are more concerned about immediate interventions that can guarantee their safety and restore confidence in public institutions.

She particularly highlighted the plight of farmers, many of whom have reportedly been forced to abandon their farmlands because of insecurity.

According to her, the continued attacks on farming communities pose a serious threat not only to livelihoods but also to the nation’s food security.

“The farmers who lose their farmlands daily do not need your distance. They need empathy and they need action. They need you to be able to protect the land. They need you to stop the insecurity that is plaguing their land,” she said.

The actress also drew attention to the growing number of kidnapping incidents involving schoolchildren and young people, describing such cases as some of the most heartbreaking consequences of the security crisis.

She recalled reports and images of abducted children, saying the suffering endured by victims and their families should move leaders to act with greater urgency.

“The children who were tied up, did you see that child? The one tied up with stone, tied to his back, his legs and his hands tied together. How can that not move you, Mr President?” she asked.

Dokubo further reflected on the emotional burden carried by parents whose children have either been abducted or exposed to violence.

She said no parent should have to live with the fear of receiving a distress call about their child’s safety or face the uncertainty of not knowing whether their loved one will return home alive.

“May no parent go through this fear, this fear of knowing that they may be the ones to bury their children or worse, not even see the corpse of their children,” she said.

The actress concluded by warning against treating insecurity as a normal part of life, stressing that indifference could have far-reaching consequences for the country.

She urged leaders at all levels to demonstrate empathy, listen to the concerns of citizens, and prioritise concrete measures that will improve security across Nigeria.

Her remarks have since generated reactions online, with many Nigerians joining the conversation about the need for stronger security measures, accountability, and lasting solutions to the challenges confronting communities across the country.
