Nigerian music star Davido has officially announced the release of a new single titled I Know Who I Be, setting the stage for what appears to be the beginning of another chapter in his musical journey.

The award-winning singer made the announcement on Monday through his X account, revealing that the track is scheduled for release on June 26.

Sharing promotional images alongside the announcement, Davido described the upcoming release as the start of a new phase.

“The journey to the throne begins. My next single I Know Who I Be releases June 26th,” he wrote.

The new song will feature rising acts Jazzwrld and GL_Ceejay, signaling Davido’s continued interest in blending established star power with emerging talent.

The announcement immediately sparked excitement among fans, many of whom have been anticipating new music from the Afrobeats heavyweight after months of relatively few solo releases.

Although Davido has remained visible through performances, collaborations and public appearances, I Know Who I Be represents a return to releasing standalone material under his own name.

His last major solo release was Be There Still, which dropped on March 7, 2025. That release came during a period when the singer continued building on the global success of his critically acclaimed album Timeless.

Before this latest announcement, Davido’s most recent musical appearance had been as a featured artiste on Nakupenda, a collaboration with South African duo TxC.

For many followers of the singer, the announcement suggests a renewed focus on personal releases after balancing collaborations and international appearances.

The timing of the announcement has also attracted attention because it comes shortly after Davido appeared at the opening concert of the 2026 FIFA World Cup countdown series in Los Angeles.

His appearance at the global event reinforced his position as one of Africa’s most recognised music exports and highlighted the growing influence of Afrobeats on international stages.

The singer also made headlines around the concert after using his appearance to draw attention to social issues back home, generating widespread conversation online.

Now, attention has shifted back to the music itself.

Born David Adeleke, Davido first rose to national prominence in 2012 following the release of Dami Duro, a breakout hit that quickly became one of the defining songs of its era.

The track introduced him as one of the leading voices of a new generation of Nigerian pop stars and laid the foundation for a career that would later extend across continents.

His debut album Omo Baba Olowo helped establish his identity within the industry, combining mainstream appeal with energetic Afrobeats production.

Over the years, he expanded his catalogue with projects including A Good Time released in 2019, A Better Time in 2020, and Timeless in 2023.

Among those projects, Timeless became especially significant, earning widespread acclaim and reinforcing his status as one of the most commercially successful Nigerian artists of his generation.

Beyond his own music career, Davido has also contributed to developing new talent through DMW, the record label he launched in 2016.

Through the platform, he has helped introduce and support several artistes who later built successful careers of their own.

Interestingly, the announcement of I Know Who I Be comes weeks after Davido publicly mentioned taking a brief break from music, making the reveal feel unexpected for many fans.

With the release date now confirmed, anticipation continues to build as listeners wait to hear the direction Davido plans to take with his latest offering and whether the single signals the beginning of a larger project.
