The family of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has stirred emotional reactions after reports emerged suggesting that his wife, Anwuli Amakom Ekubo, may be expecting a child following comments made during his funeral rites.
According to accounts from the burial proceedings, the speculation began when the traditional ruler of Arochukwu in Abia State, the hometown of the late actor, made remarks during a wake-keep ceremony held on Thursday, June 18.
The actor’s remains had earlier been moved to his hometown on Wednesday, June 17, ahead of the funeral activities, which attracted family members, colleagues, and sympathisers from the entertainment industry.
During a visit to the palace of the Eze Aro of Arochukwu, the monarch offered prayers over the casket of the late actor, describing the moment as a solemn occasion for both the family and the community.
While praying, the traditional ruler expressed hope that Alex Ekubo’s family line would continue, adding that there were unconfirmed reports suggesting that his wife might be pregnant.
In his prayer, he reportedly asked for divine blessings on the actor’s lineage and prayed that any child connected to him would grow to achieve greater heights than the late actor.
“While praying, he asked God to ensure that Alex’s lineage doesn’t end,” a source at the ceremony recounted. “He further mentioned that there were reports indicating that his wife may be pregnant, and he prayed that the child would grow to do even greater things.”
The statement, however, has not been independently confirmed by the immediate family of the late actor or his wife, and no official announcement has been made regarding any pregnancy.
Despite the lack of confirmation, the remarks quickly spread among attendees and social media users, generating mixed reactions ranging from hope and comfort to calls for caution over unverified information.
For many sympathisers, the possibility of a child has been received as a symbolic continuation of Alex Ekubo’s legacy, especially given his impact on the Nigerian film industry before his passing.
Anwuli Amakom Ekubo, who has largely remained private throughout the mourning period, has not publicly addressed the claim as of the time of filing this report.
