‘Secular music not ungodly’ – ID Cabasa tells Christian creatives

Veteran Nigerian music producer ID Cabasa has stirred conversation within the creative and religious communities after challenging the long-held belief that the secular music industry is inherently ungodly.

 The respected Coded Tunes boss made his position known in a recent message shared on social media, where he encouraged Christian creatives to reconsider their fears about engaging with mainstream entertainment.

According to Cabasa, the idea that the secular music space belongs to negative spiritual forces is misleading and has discouraged many talented individuals from exploring their full potential. 

He argued that such claims are rooted in misconception rather than truth, stressing that creativity itself is not owned by any dark influence. Instead, he maintained that the real issue lies in human choices, particularly actions driven by sin and moral compromise.

In his statement, Cabasa called on Christians who possess artistic talent to boldly step into the industry without guilt or hesitation. 

He emphasized that withdrawing from the space only creates a vacuum, which can then be filled with content that may not reflect positive values. 

For him, the absence of morally conscious creators in mainstream entertainment contributes to the imbalance often criticized by observers.

The music executive further explained that while negative elements may exist in the industry, they do not define it entirely. 

He pointed out that every sector of society has its share of challenges, but what matters is the presence of individuals who can influence change from within. 

By this logic, he believes Christian creatives have a role to play in shaping narratives, promoting uplifting messages, and redefining standards in the secular music scene.

Cabasa also highlighted the concept of “light” as a metaphor for positive influence. He argued that rather than avoiding environments perceived as flawed, individuals with strong values should enter those spaces to make a difference. 

In his view, the dominance of harmful content is often a result of the absence of people willing to counter it with meaningful alternatives.

His remarks come at a time when debates about faith and entertainment continue to generate mixed reactions, particularly in Nigeria where religion plays a significant role in everyday life. 

Many artists have previously faced criticism for choosing careers in mainstream music despite their religious backgrounds, often being forced to defend their decisions publicly.

By addressing the issue directly, Cabasa has added a new dimension to the conversation, urging a shift in perspective. 

He believes that creative expression should not be limited by fear, but guided by purpose and conviction. Ultimately, his message is one of empowerment, encouraging individuals to embrace their talents while remaining grounded in their beliefs.
