Veteran Fuji musician Saheed Osupa has sparked widespread reactions online after openly discussing the role of spirituality in his journey to fame and success.

The singer made the revelation during a live performance at the 52nd birthday celebration of Nollywood actor Fatai Odua on March 30, where his comments quickly drew attention across social media platforms.

In a video circulating online, Osupa boldly stated that he does not hide his spiritual practices, contrary to what he believes many others do in secret.

According to him, claims that he relies solely on religious texts like the Bible or the Quran are not true. Instead, he admitted to engaging in traditional practices, saying he sees nothing wrong with it as long as it does not harm anyone.

The 55-year-old explained that he had once been advised to publicly deny being associated with such beliefs, but he refused.

He maintained that he had no reason to hide his truth, especially since, in his view, his actions are not harmful or evil. For Osupa, his focus has always been on personal growth and achieving success in his career, rather than engaging in anything destructive.

Speaking further, the Fuji star revealed that paying homage to Ifa is part of his daily routine. He described it as a form of respect and acknowledgment of a spiritual system he believes contributes to his progress.

He questioned alternative methods of success, suggesting that conventional means alone may not explain the level of achievement he has attained over the years.

Osupa also used the moment to advise his backup singers, encouraging them to explore practices that could enhance their memory and performance.

He mentioned certain traditional items they could use, while insisting that doing so should not automatically label them as fetish.

His remarks, however, have continued to stir debate, particularly his claim that “everybody practises voodoo,” a statement many have strongly disagreed with.

Despite the controversy, Osupa remains one of the most influential figures in Fuji music, a genre deeply rooted in Yoruba culture.

His career spans decades, during which he has built a loyal fan base and maintained relevance in Nigeria’s evolving music scene.

The genre itself was pioneered by legends like Ayinde Barrister, whose influence helped shape the sound and identity of Fuji music.

Osupa is also known for his long-standing rivalry with fellow Fuji star Wasiu Pasuma. The two artistes were once at the centre of a public feud that attracted significant attention within the industry.

However, in 2023, both men reconciled, putting an end to years of tension and signaling unity within the Fuji music community.
